Default Just how good is Bioshock???

Ok to those who have either played this game on Xbox 360 or PC just chime in with a number score or feel free to comment. Im getting ready to get my gaming pc back up and thought id see what your thoughts were. For all the original hype the game got it fell off within a few weeks of release. Either way nice thing is when or if i get it for pc it will be after all the hype and distorted emotions have been pretty much cleared away. Thats whats kinda nice about sitting in the catseat nowadays.............

Well Nerds has a review of the game written by some wise being who is worthy of everybody's praise, I imagine. Essentially it's a hugely atmospheric game well worth playing. The city of Rapture has a lot of character that really draws you in, the game's few characters are well-realised and all have their own interesting story, and if you take advantage of the plasmids and hacking instead of opting for playing it as a shooter you can get a lot of variety from it.

My only real complaint is the lack of replay value, which I imagine is why it isn't talked about as constantly as other games these days. In theory it's possible to expand the game's length by setting your own conditions or roleplaying (don't use guns, don't use plasmids etc.) but you can see pretty much everything in the one play through. As I literally just posted elsewhere though the 360 version just had a minor update setting a new challenge, and if it heralds the start of additional content then that will take care of that one minor issue.

Either way there's a chunky downloadable demo for PC (I got it through Steam) that has you play through the start of the game and should give you a feel for it and how well it runs.

Yeah i was impressed by the review originally and have heard mostly high praise of the game. Figured id check around here too and get other personal testimonies. Thanks Macho thats very good info, figure i will look into the game. I tried System Shock 2 for a while back six or seven years ago, thought it was a pretty good game. Sounds like it would be worth the effort to check into!

I only played the 360 demo and it really did draw me right in. It looks great, plays great and the story sounds... great. If you've got a PC which will run it then Bioshock should be high on your list.

I agree with Macho on the replay aspect but this may be getting sorted. atm it's probably a game you'll want to play through once every couple of months.

The game is fantastic, plain and simple. The review is great, too.

This was my GOTY, but Super Mario Galaxy is giving it a rough time for that title. It may be dethroned very soon.
