Default Microsoft extends warranty for all Xbox 360s up to 3 years

At least they're covering their asses against lawsuits.

Yeah i saw this a couple of hours ago.

I guess, they figured they needed to do something before this escalates to a lawsuit. With a 33% malfunctioning rate on the XBox 360 i can't believe MS didn't do something about this earlier.

Wow, MS will be taking a $1.15 billion hit for this extension of warranty. They are also going to reimburse everyone and anyone who paid for repairs. Maybe MS should get out of the gaming industry and leave to to Nintendo and Sony.

Or they should get their act together and make a console with expected reliability from a console. I mean, they knew what Sony went through with the ps2 (which they seemingly corrected with the ps3) - so I'm not sure why it flew over their heads. I supposed they just used their common software strategy for hardware.

*shrugs*

I am so happy my console is still trouble free but then I don't use it much. The extended warranty makes perfect sense and it should become an industry standard imo.

well the extend warranty is only for the red-ring of death. It's not for every nook and cranny in the 360 (which seem to be pretty much problem-free). This only happened to prevent a class-action suit, which was inevitable if they didn't do anything.

Hopefully for them, they found the cause and resolved it in newly manufactured hardware, but who knows about that.

I thought more recent machines were suffering from the ring of death?
