Default Your thoughts on the Virtual Console?

So my roomie has a Wii and he checks every Monday for the latest updates. He's got some pretty classic stuff, such as the original SMB, Castlevania, Super Castlevania IV, Contra III, Punch Out!, etc.

While I love playing these games that HE bought again, I just can't see myself ever paying to play them again. I mean, if I really loved an old NES game, chances are I played it to death already so outside the nostalgia factor, the games have no practical value, and if I DIDN'T play them before, chances are I wasn't interested to begin with, so what's the point?

Anyone else here using the VC? If so, what do you think about the service?

I just got my Wii, and I plan to get some GC or Classic controllers and probably Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 once I get a few paychecks into my new job. I'm not sure I'd pay for older NES games, cause I already have my NES with Mario 1-3 and about 20 other games, still operational and hooked up to my tv.. So unless something amazing comes out I doubt I'll use that portion of the system other than the said 64 games.

I own 3 VC titles. Mario 64 (because I never played it), Gunstar Heroes (because I still play it), and Sonic.

The only purchase that I somewhat regret is sonic. That one I have played to death, and I bought purely based on nostalgia - which would have been fine if the price had been better.

Really to me, what it boils down to is price. Is a NES game still really worth $4-5, and a SNES/GENNY game $8? That's pretty questionnable. The price would be right for nostalgia if the games were half as expensive.

Overall, I think that the XBLA service is better. It does have retro games (although they don't have the same quality), but they also have original content, all of which you can try before you buy, so that at least the nostalgia can wear on before you make the purchase.

It cause SNES and Genesis are the waaaaave of the future.

And I own sonic too.

But I agree, so far Live has a better collection of downloadable content.. but if VC kicks into action and starts piling on classic games, maybe allowing package downloads or lowering price, some sort of promotion, it could live up to expectations..

Remember when Genesis era games were out though? I don't remember SNES prices because I never got one, but I remember getting Mortal Kombat 3 for Genesis for like $75, every game had pretty much some random ass price, and it wasn't very consistant between stores it seemed.. maybe they could bring that shitty concept back to modern gaming.
