Is Smash Brothers still lousy online then? As far as I can tell the main reason the European release has taken so long (just under a month until launch now) is because they wanted to make sure they had the infrastructure in place for smooth online play, so if it still ends up being crappy then that would be rather annoying.

I wasn't planning to play it online much anyway, but the anonymous play did sound like it might be good from time to time.

That's the thing, it was good when it worked. I didn't mind the anonymous play at all, as it substituted CPU for people. But, more often than not, you had to wait 5 minutes to find a match, if it ever worked. I don't have any problems with their anonymous play concept - I think that works fairly well. It's quick and easy, and the lack of any chat doesn't matter to me in this mode, because I don't chat with complete strangers while playing online anyway.

It's when you want to play with people you know that things get nasty, with the stupid friends codes, and the lack of any decent communication method.

ive never played the Wii online.

but i have used the browser and meh.. its ok. the PS3's browser is infinitely better. ..I did think that the BBC Iplayer was decent until we got it on the ps3, and that stopped me from using the wii in that way.

imo the best thing about Wii's online is the virtual game market place, superb.. amazing.. a mine field! lol, but certainly better than any other console to date.
