Default Final Fantasy VII - Crisis Core + Shinra UDM Case

Just noting that psxextreme mentions that Amazon.com is tossing in the Shinra UMD case, also seems to be the case with ebgames.com, although not mentioned in the description, the case is clearly included in the picture that ebgames.com has showing. I'm assuming it either comes with the game standard or most likely a limited edition collectors case that people will receive when buying the game within oh... I dunno... The first week to 30 days? I expect it'll be found in stores too, but if you're serious about it... Preordering is probably best!

i agree, probably needs to be preordered at least i would of thought.

anyone know what sort of RPG this is.. free roam style or linear path or set scene type?

i take it that its turn based, but im wondering about travel.. i mean can you travel to Inn's in different villages like say Breath of Fire?

dunno, but my guess it'll be based on the same system FFVII. Then again, I could be completely wrong. One thing is for sure, I'll be getting my hands on it first thing just like I have with alot of FF games since the first one 20+ years ago

you sound like a mature gamer? are you a Child Man?

lol.. sorry, refer to story on main page, lol...

did you play FF7 when it first came out? ive only played FF1 (in Japanese on the WS)... and FF2, FF8, X, X2, XII. i do love the series.

if you have played F7, what game does it resemble more in the FF series?

like FF8 is quite like FFX in the way that you can walk about and go places. I dont imagine that FF7 was as free as FFXII, but im just wondering how linear Crisis Core will be.

i got (had) the game Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, and tho i probably didnt give it enough time, i hated it. the way you walked in to town and it was 2D.. so linear, nothing to explore.. i love to explore!! traded it within the week.

im trying not to make the same mistake with FF CC.

Man-Child (reversed) imo, LOL (growing up with the theme song from big toy store TOYS R' US "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R' Us kid!" Blame it on them! I'm 28 and I was born with an atari controller in hand!

Yeah, I played FFVII when it was new. Tag teamed it with my ex fiancee actually, which makes the story all the more fun! (we now play HALO 3 together!)

FFVIII was not all the different imo than FFVII. The primary differences were not found in the world system, but more in the character designs, graphical improvements, and the annoying card game. You could actually say, FFVII was the kind of the basis for all FF games after it (with the exception of 11 which really has no world map so to speak). My only problem in some cases was the lack of camera control, but hardly enough to make a big deal over it. FFXII actually more along the lines of XI in alot of ways, but that could be argued all day by ppl who play XI.

Last time I played a 2D FF was... Eeek, this remake of the original here infront of me I have for my PSP, and the remake of Tactics.

One good reason to question Crisis Core though, is the lack of a left analog stick. Granted it has the D-Pad and the nub, but it's just not the same! I assume it'll be similiar to VII, but then I never expected Dirge of Cerberus to be what it was.

With that in mind, I found this with google.com...

With each entry of Final Fantasy, a new gameplay innovation will rear its head, for better or for worse. This holds true even for spin off games and Crisis Core is no exception. While enemies are not visible on the field, battles take place directly on the exploration map without a major transition to a battle screen. This makes the combination of exploration and battle much more seamless than in most previous Final Fantasy games. During battle, the actions Zack is able to take are displayed on the lower right hand corner, with his basic stats (HP, MP, and AP) on the bottom left. Actions include the two basics, attack and item, plus any magic or command materia Zack has currently equipped. Magic materia expends MP for use and command materia requires AP to execute. Battles are fought in real time, with Zack being able to move around during battle. As soon as a command is issued, Zack will cease listening to the player's commands and initiate the action. For magic, he will stop in place and cast the spell, and for physical abilities, Zack will run up to the targeted enemy to execute the command. In the time between the beginning of the command execution and the end of the spell/attack animation, Zack will be uncontrollable–which can be somewhat of a bother at certain times.

I had a problem with FX-2.. really got on my nerves. FFXI never came ot here on the ps2 because of lack of HDD, which was a shame.. i was looking forward to that and StarWars Galaxies.. but Sony never got its arse i gear and got the HDD's out.

anyway, cheers.. i think you have cleared up a few questions!! looks like i'l be getting this.. just need to find out when its out in the UK. i take it that your in the States..

yep, from the us northeast coast. Didn't know the PS2 support never hit the UK, but that doesn't amaze me. FFXI fortunately works on the PS3, but I primarily play it on PC as I have for nearly 4 years.

Crisis Core is the #1 reason I bought a PSP. Second I saw it was coming to the US, the PSP hit my "need to own one" list.
Suppose you could say I'm a Squaresoft/SquareEnix fanboy of 20 years!
(immature child man, no, but I sure know about the midlife crisis bartender who thinks she can party... she's my ex gf!)

BTW, Crisis Core should give more insight into the mini CGI movie that was included with the Japanese DVD release of FFVII: Advent Children. Also with Crisis Core coming to the PSP, this actually would be a next to spectacular time for SquareEnix to drop VII onto the playstation network, boosting sales of the historical game and reintroducing it to the newer generation that didn't play it 11 years ago.

I was just browsing through the topic and noticed that neither of you seemed to have played Final Fantasy VI (III for SNES US)

It's defiantly the pinnacle to the main series.

Played VI and beat it a long time ago. From the original RPG 2D style standpoint, I don't disagree with you at all, although IV remains my favorite of all time. From the point where the games took a leap in 3D styling, and a more visual world, VII is my favorite, although the graphics in VIII and X were definately superior from the blocky more animated characters of VII. And VI actually had something no other FF ever had... The most psychotic evil lunatic of all time... Kefka, but then VII had the most vile, methodical and thoughtout of evils (not to mention the coolest, <3 the murasame), Sephiroth.

Granted, each game I've played over 20 years has given something I enjoy. The birth of the series, The characters of IV; the story and drama of VI; the originality and rebirth of the series in VII, the graphics of VIII; the recreation of an old style FF in IX; the amazing cgi videos in X; the world style of XII, the game style and ending of Tactics; the immerse and long play value of XI...

What will Crisis Core give me, I wonder...
