I thought I would ask you guys what you think of MGO, because I’m sure we’ve all played it by now? ..no? lol


well, Ive played it a bit, and I plan to play it more. But with GTA4 tomorrow, Im just glad MGO is on the HDD! Because there’s only one disk that will stay in my PS3 for a while, as per usual with GTA games.



So what’s peoples thoughts on MGO?

Personally I guess Im amazed yet slightly disappointed, if that makes sense? First impressions were “wow” training was cool.. you can do a lot, then I played a game.. a lil choppy, but it’s a Beta for a reason, so they can fix these things. I like the characters set up, bemused that when I realised that I wanted to change my name.. I have to wait like 159 days to do it (wtf?), I like the different area’s and the lobby system.. all cool.

Im kinda disappointed because I have to wonder are these the graphics for MGS4? I mean they’re good.. REALLY good, but is this like sneaking in to your parents cupboard to find your xmas presents early?

And if so could this be damaging to MGS4?

I'm not downloading it. DK has and said that you can't play it like you can in single player and that the whole feel of it is therefore different.

He said that you can't sneak round and peek round walls because things that the AI is programmed to miss to make it a stealth game, other people will see and exploit like peeking round a corner. DK said that when you slide to the edge to take a sneaky look, part of your arm is clearly visible to anyone stood down from where you are.

that is true, mainly because everyone who is playing it like that think its CoD, really fkg annoying.

its amazing the people who are running and gunning in this game, thats one of the reasons I wasnt happy with it..

BUT things may of changed since posting this topic! seems theres now a new Patch download for a new map and game modes! one of the game modes (no idea if theres one new mode or more as i havent downloaded it yet).. the one everyone is talking about is a stealth mode, where you have to collect dog tags and sneak about a lot, i have no specifics on this yet, but already i like it.

Thing is Gabe.. youre a perfect example. I bet if the game was a simple download of 500meg off you go and play, you would of done it by now.

But all the faffing about really is tiresome, all the patches and the whole ID thing was a joke!
The only reason im still playing it and willing to download the patches is because it took so bloody long to get to the point of playing the damn game, is that ive invested too much time in this now just to forget it, lol..

Konami owes me!

I must of already downloaded that patch, because ive already got the new map and sneaking mode!
Basically say 11 of you play the sneaking game, only one is Snake with special eye and Octocamo thing which are all so fkg cool. the point is the other ten have to hunt snake, and Snake has to kill/stun/holdup the others to gain their dogtags.. snake changes from player to player i think. apparently if theres more than 11 then the extra player/s (?) become Snake Mk2. im sure i have that wrong, im typing from memory.. and its been a hard day at work, so i know i have that wrong.

all in all, i was wrong... this game has just totally gone up in my book, shame GTA is out tomorrow, lol.

as for what DK said, i do agree with him, but this is what Konami should be told.. because they really need to fix those issues.

In a few words... I dont like it.
Too slow and un-responsive.

I LOVE the Metal Gear Series but I just can't seem to get into this.


Enemies/You take too long to die aswel, I ran round this corner, 2 enemies there, I span round for some reason, was getting shot to shit in the back still managed to turn around and kill one of them.

I know the single player of MGS4 will be nothing like this but its made me worry a little.

lol.. i just sent you a message on the psn saying how much more impressive MGO is to HAZE in terms of what you get for your gig and a half download!

and although youre right about everything you said.. you should play the sneaking missions! THAT is what MGO shold be about, not a group of people wishing they were playing CoD.
Sneaking missions are very very cool. its a shame that they wernt available right from the start, I bet the TDM and DS has put a lot of people off, and is probably slightly damaging to the whole MGS4 experience.

Spent alot of yesterday playing MGO, and I gotta say, I really like it alot. Take into mind, MGO is a 3rd person shooter, the whole sneaking around and stealth is mostly for the actual single player game. Granted, it's a different take on it, but so is say... any single player Final Fantasy game, and Final Fantasy XI. In single player mode, you are a 'one man army' as Snake. In multiplayer you are just a regular solider, ie... Meryl, Johnny, or one of the PMC guys. If I do agree with one thing, it feels a little more 'tatical' than CoD4 does, and I attibute that to SOP, the heavier customized weapons, and maps that are imo, alot better designed than CoD4 maps.

5 maps doesn't offer much variety though. The weapons selection could be bigger, like will get bigger with time, or so I'd hope... More importantly, I think adding a stealth camo game option would be nice, but in a fashion where targets could just barely be seen... Games of the sort would, least to me, be much more teamwork oriented, and use of the SOP system would really fall into place.

All in all, I think MGO is great, and various ways, better than CoD4. There's alot to expand on it, and with any luck, such expanding will be taking serious. I do quite fine with sneaking around when I break off from the team, usually to run around behind the enemy, to catch them off guard as they're focused on what is infront of them.

Three of the maps are definately suited for sniping, and I've aided alot, if not lead my teams to win after win taking to sniper perches on high ground, while many others tend to run around on ground levels, unaware their heads are in my crosshairs...

Team efforts in MGO are also a huge factor to winning as I've discovered, which is something I almost never see in Halo 3, and after playing CoD4 all afternoon and night yesterday... I'm convinced there is nobody left who understands the simple concept... Stop throwing grenades likes it's 4th of july, you suck and the fact you use juggernaut proves it, you are the bomb carrier, take the *long censored beep* bomb to the *another long censored beep of hateful frustration* target position, constantly shooting your teammates is a sign of stupidity, but most of all... Stop ending the games mid game because you're losing! IW seriously has things they need to fix on CoD4... The host ending games instead of moving to a different host would DEFINATELY be a start.

oh well, enough for now, I need sleep!

I really love it, but I can only play it rarely because it's so bandwidth consuming! One hour on it= 500MB... someone was on it the whole day once, and it used like 4GB of bandiwidth!
