I thought that this game deserved it's very own thread.
First if you go to the PlayStation blog you will find a big update on WKC. You should probably read up on there so we know what you think. I just read the story posted and I am very much pleased with what I got out of it. I will highlight some of the things that made most impressions on me. Motomura-san = Kentaro Motomura, Producer of White Knight Chronicles Motomura-san now describes the concept of the world – an authentic fantasy world created on an enormous scale. One of the characteristics is that there are lot of enormous creatures in the game, such as a monster so large, it has a town on its back. That seems like something you wouldn't want to run in to so much. I mean if a monster can have a town on it's back how big is the town etc. Can we travel to this town, is this creature friendly or evi? OK, now what you were really pining for: the Battle System. Players can freely register commands into the “function palettes”. You can create and name your own combos to be used in an active-time battle using simple controls. Many, many combination's are possible. Well it seems like we got some genius at work here we fresh ideas. Love the idea of "freely register commands into the "function palettes" part. Plus name your own combos seems like nice idea. Motomura-san talks more about the Knights for which the game is named. Sometimes you (and your friends) are going to come face-to-face with incredibly large enemies, impervious to most of your attacks. But you’ll likely want to transform into one of the huge Knight characters. But it’s possible to fight successfully with a mix of small and transformed warriors. So it seems there are a lot of BIG monster battles in the game, which balance the use of the powerful White Knight. The new screen shots they up at the blog look very good, and very much how an fantasy JRPG should look like. All that is left is for them to release an North American and European release date. Let the discussion begin |

Does anyone know anything about the story line in this game, other than it is supposed to be about 100 hours long?

We've got very little information about the story so far, but according to the PS blog the story is about a young guy named Leonard, he stumble upon a big mysterious knights armor in the kingdoms castle that is under attack by some strange wizards.
It seems the princess of the kingdom was kidnapped during the Castle raid. so then begins the quest for our young hero to find and rescue his princess, and become the hero. A classic knight and princess story it looks like, unfold in a new way. Level 5 is on to something huge. Last edited by BlinkBoy; 10-10-2008 at 05:11 PM. |

I think it will be a good game. Finally we get a RPG that seems to be good.
The concept around it seems alright. The huge monsters will be a plus and the transformations to the Knights will hopefully be something to look forward to as well. The only thing I do not like is the online co-op. Why not have a local co-op as well? And with all the other big name games coming out over the next month. I'm not really sure it would be wise to release this in America this year. I know I wouldn't be able to play it till at least spring or summer. Let alone afford it right now...

I have needed a JRPG of this quality basically since I last played FFX but I do wish it was turn based

Translating an RPG on the size of WKC and FFXIII takes time, there is a lot more text and script in an RPG to be translated plus the English voice actors will have to put their touch on it. But they should at least have already located the people for voices or maybe they are working on this subject at the moment.
I think a North American and European+ other PAL regions release dates will be given closer to the Japan release or maybe after. I hope it is not further away than March/April. |

I've awaited pretty eagerly for this game, and my wonderment for it has probably faded since the first time we saw it next-gen was in its infancy, but if the actual battle system is good, it stands a chance at being entertaining all the way throughout. I think I have seriously developed an allergy to the traditional turn-based JRPG because it's about times games got some action in them as well as the RPG elements.
I wouldn't call assigning a handful of controls to some buttons genius though, lol, that has been done a lot before (but what hasn't?). I would call it freaking refreshing for a genre that has been stagnant (for the most part) for a decade and a half. I hate to say it, but I think the Japanese culture is what really holds these games back. Does anyone ever wonder how interesting some of these games would be if they were more... adult? Every time I play one I feel like I'm playing a slightly more complex children's book. Sometimes there really isn't anything wrong with that, sometimes games leave too much to the imagination for fear of being inappopriate. And frankly, Japanese culture isn't exactly the epitome of expression. There's a lot of unexplored themes when it comes to Medieval kingdoms. Crazy murdering religious zealots (well, in a more honest and brutal way), women's treatment, etc. When was the last time a medieval game depicted what medieval life must have really been like? At least coming out of Japan, I'd say damn near never. Still, I'm excited to play this game and I hope it meets expectations. For me, that'd be an exciting battle system and a story that was interesting enough to keep you going, a guy saving a princess better not be the entire goal of the story, though, that would just be ridiculous. Anyone think of Gundam at all when they think of this game? Like an old-schoo Gundam game or something. |

Wow ~ first glance at the screenshots I was at a Wow.
Finally an RPG that can really be deemed nex-gen. The story seems interesting with 100+hrs but Im really excited about how deep the 4 player co-op goes. I hope its not similar to the FFXI battlestyle. "Anyone think of Gundam at all when they think of this game? Like an old-schoo Gundam game or something." ^ lolx really? Warriors who can't beat the enemy so they transform into something bigger... sounds like its mighty morphing power rangers time. But yeah, Im looking forward to this and definitely looking like a GOTY contender for me too.

I don't think of Gundam, but I think of Xenogears with their huge tech robot suits and all that came with it, where you could just transform into a big house like metal creature, you don't really transform but you are controlling a big transformers like "manbot". Xenogears is also the name of one of the coolest "manbots" in the game and it turns into the crazy stuff at the end, OOPS I've said to much. I don't want to spoil to much.
You kinda have to be there to understand all the crazyness at the end anyway, I myself yet don't understand everything that went on. But that is what I think when I hear "transform" in to big white knight, black knight and/or dragon knights, and fight big bad and ugly creatures that carries village on their back. Is give me release date or even a release window like Q1 or Q2 2009 so I can pre order it now! |
