the lowest score ive seen is Eurogamer going it 8/10.. and theyre actually quite nasty about MGS4.

still, who cares about one review! who cares about reviews?

this game will kick serious arse.

Eurogamer's review actually sounds quite level-headed while IGN's (by somebody who has written for Eurogamer in the past, incidentally) is fairly gushing, but then I say that as somebody who has no interest in the game so would automatically veer away from the perfect reviews. EG points out that it doesn't really leap forward in terms of gameplay, instead refining everything that was previously established. It's one of those reviews where fans should probably add a point or two.

Personally it was interesting to see EG mention having to install after every act while IGN didn't, and IGN mentioning they're specifically not allowed to talk about the length of cutscenes.

I haven't played any of the previous MGS titles but I will buy this one.

I don't buy games by review scores, but nice to see they get payed for all the hard work.

Apparently Edge have also awarded MGS4 eight out of ten. Videogaming 24/7 has links to scans of the article. Edge also repeats that there are "two [cutscenes] in particular coming perilously close to the 90-minute mark".

But again, fans of the series embrace MGS for all that and can theoretically add two to the score, while people who don't could probably subtract a couple. What I think these 8/10 reviews do that the 10/10 ones don't is appeal to the people who are on the fence with MGS, those who enjoy some bits but also dislike others. As Eurogamer says:

Quote:
Then there are those - this reviewer included - for whom Metal Gear Solid is a love it and hate it proposition. Flawed, intractable, unspeakably tedious at times, and yet blessed with incredible production values, imaginative design, and a brilliant, brave willingness to think and do the unexpected and impossible. At times they're barely videogames at all, but they're capable of moments of pure videogame genius, joy and shock that few other series can match.
They're the kind of people well served by these reviews. It lets them know that MGS4 keeps and expands upon what is good about the series while still retaining what they feel isn't. Fans don't need to hear it's perfectly MGS to justify a purchase any more than detractors do to avoid it.

Sexy. Now just to get the money to buy a PS3 (and time to play to warrant purchase).

Famitsu scores it perfectly.

Unfortunately I have spoiled the entire game by reading stuff on different forums. You want to know why Konami tells you to stay away from boards for the next week? It's because people already have the game and are giving away everything.
Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.

Yeah, GameFAQ's forums in particular seem to be all aboard the spoiler train, and they're making quick stops around the web to unleash their deadly cargo. People need to really be careful about where they visit until they've got through the game.

It's an attitude that has always bothered me. WoW forums were notorious for it, starting topics with spoilers for Harry Potter or X3 in the title. I don't even have any interest in MGS4 but I'd never actively try and ruin the surprises for anybody else, let alone acquire the game early specifically to do so...

i dont mind spoilers, but this time around i want to stay pure until i need to know something.

even then its hard to find out what you want without running in to a spoiler or two along the way.

grrrr

Not a review, but there was something on the main news about there likely being little if any commercials on MGS4... Other people might have seen one, but I just saw one on TV while watching the Sci-Fi Channel.
