Exclamation Need Technical Help

hey everyone,
I just bought NHL 08 and went to play it. I turned on my PS3 and got this message "the hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored". I thought well this stinks, there go my saved games but oh well, i have no other choice. I pressed x to let it restore. It got to 100% and then restarted, i though oh this is good, all should be fine now, well i was wrong, i got the same message, after doing this 10 plus times i got tired of it and came to the forums. I searched google and many people have said it was caused from shutting off the console while the hard drive was saving, makes sense ( my roommates were the last to shut it off so i assume they did it wrong). Now i was wondering if anyone had some simple answers as to how i can fix this so i can get back to gaming? Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Yig, my personal guess is, you'll need to send it to sony to fix it. Either than or buy a new harddrive to replace it and see if that works.

try and re-format the hdd, this will Erase all your data on there though.

Or you must send it in to sony's custom service like mentioned above.

What's with installing wallpaper on my PS3? I downloaded some wallpaper off the site and installed it on my PS3. When I went to load it, the pictures are only clear at an extremely small setting. if I enlarge it to fill the screen the picture (all of them actually) become extremely distorted. Can somebody offer me any tips on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for your help. (from a PS3 noob)

I can't comment on the process directly, but are you following the installation instructions? I had a look at a couple of the top rated wallpapers and the resolutions seem like they should look okay even on a 1080p display. Having them only look right at a small size suggests somehow you're ending up with the thumbnail views or something.

Thanks for the quick reply! I followed those instructions to the "t" which is why I don't understand what's going on. But you're right, I am getting a "thumbnail view". I had downloaded a couple of the pics from the link you gave me onto my usb drive (after making the appropriate folders) and than installed it onto my PS3, but no good. I'll have to try it again when I get home tonight, maybe I missed something.
I do appreciate your help though.
Thanks!

@marino, i had the same problem as you and I figured it was the thumbnail view that messed it up and well it was. So you should have no problem tonight if you do it.
@milkman- try using an external to backup all your files and then use a pc or something to see if any of those files are corrupted. If you can't do that then send it to sony but give the restore thing one more shot. Sorry man that sucks to have happened.

Once you've put it on the USB drive check the dimensions. I don't know what pics you're going for, but for testing purposes you could try the three top-rated:

1) Keeley Hazell should be about 92 KB and 1680px × 1050px
2) Keeley Hazell should be about 107 KB and 1728px × 1080px
3) Neutron Revolver should be about 163 KB and 1728px × 1080px

For the dimensions you would need to open it up in an image viewer and check, but for the file size just go to the file on the USB drive and check the properties. If the file size roughly matches the above figures then the image is fine and it's something about the PS3 process that's wrong. If the image takes up much less KB than it should then you've made a mistake in downloading it and transferring it to the memory stick.

This happened to me as I thought my PS3 had crashed, it seemed to take ages one day for it to switch off. I got the same message as you and it went through the cycle twice. All I lost was my saved games so I was very lucky. You may however not be so lucky and have to send your PS3 back. I have learned my lesson now and wait for the red light to come on before turning the machine off at the back.

Why even turn the machine off at the back at all? There's really no need at all. It's not good for your system either way and I don't understand taking the risk with it.

My computer has the same switch, I'd never turn it off that way unless for some reason nothing else was working.

I love that the original poster never came back, lol.
