Question New PS3 owner with 2 questions...

So... I'm a bit (a lot) late for the PS3 party, but I'm finally on board. I do have a couple of questions, though, that some of you who have had the system longer might be able to answer.

1. For those who have the 80GB unit (that's what I got), how is the PS2 backwards compatibility? Is it better to keep my PS2 hooked up?

2. What are some good PS Store recommendations? I've heard (and read) some things about High Velocity Bowling and Super Stardust HD to be interested, but I'm curious to hear other takes before I drop $20.

I'm loving the system so far. Between regular purchases and clearing out my local Circuit City, I got these games to start:

All-Pro Football 2K8 (haven't tried yet, bought for $15 new)
Burnout Paradise (pretty cool, getting used to open-ended scheme)
College Hoops 2K7 (haven't played yet, bought for $9 new)
Motorstorm (haven't played yet, came with the system)
NBA 2K7 (haven't played yet, bought for $9 new)
NBA Street Homecourt (haven't played yet, bought for $9 new)
NHL 08 (OMG WOW)
Oblivion GOTY Edition (haven't played yet, bought new for $60)
Rock Band Special Edition (OMG WOW x INFINITY; I am hooked.)
Tiger Woods 07 (bought for $15 new, haven't played)
Tiger Woods 08 (bought used for $40, shot 76 in first round... I suck.)
Virtua Tennis 3 (bought new for $30, not liking it much)

I'm looking to get Ridge Racer 7 ASAP, mainly because I have played all of the others and would like to see it on my new 46" Samsung in 1080. I'm also looking forward to MLB 08, which looks awesome. (Of course, there's also MGS4 later this year!)

1: i think the emu is fine a long as the games you want have been fixed by Sony.. keep your ps2 hooked up for a lil while if those games mean a lot to you.

2:Warhawk!! but that is $20 (I think.. im from the UK, so it might not be $20?).. worth every penny imo.
Tekken DR.. wonderful game.
Superstardust imo is the best of the shooters on there, but i havent played Everyday shooter yet. but SSD is a remake of an old game, but brilliant.
Flow is cool and Pixel Monsters.. but download and play the demos!!!

You got some good games there.. not personally my thing, way too many sports games. but still, a great selection if you like them, which you obviously do!!

may i mention a few that you dont have?

Cod4 and Unreal T3 ..if you like FPS's these two games cover the whole genre.. amazing couple of games. one isnt better than the other as they are way different from each other. but amazing titles.

you have Burnout and Oblivion, love Motorstorm too!

maybe SKATE? again a great great game, if you like any old skool dogtown skating then this is the game for you.

youre pretty set up!!

one thing.. GAMEGUYPETE???

erm.. you old Gameguypete from this site? why new member or have i confused you with someone else?

Thanks for the quick responses...

Yeah, I'm GameGuyPete from a long time ago. I re-registered under my real name, rather than my screen name. :-)

Well damn, it's Pete! Long time no see! It's me, fathoms. I be E.I.C. here now, so welcome and all that good stuff.

Dillon already answered your questions, but I'll just throw in my 2 cents.

1. I have the original 60GB model, so I certainly don't need the PS2 hooked up. But as for the 80GB, I think it all depends on what PS2 games you play. If you really only play the more popular ones, I don't think you'll have a problem. If you want to play some of the older or more obscure titles, which probably aren't compatible with the 80GB PS3, than yeah, maybe you should keep the PS2 hooked up.

2. I've heard flOw is good, and I think PAIN would be fun for quite a while. But yeah, as you can also get the full Warhawk game from the PSN, that's a must, IMO. It's really awesome entertainment.

3. Okay, you absolutely need Resistance: Fall of Man and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and I would also strongly suggest Folklore, Heavenly Sword and Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Oh, and if you haven't already played them on the 360, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, The Darkness, and of course, Devil May Cry 4 (comes out tomorrow).

I wound up getting my hands on Ridge Racer 7, as well as Uncharted... plus I downloaded High Velocity Bowling, Super Stardust HD, and Wild Arms (for nostalgia's sake).

I'm on the fence about Resistance, mainly because the sequel is in the works and I am uncomfortable spending money on a game that's likely going to lose its online server sooner rather than later. I am terrible with squad/tactical shooters, so Call of Duty was on the outside looking in. I'm thinking seriously about R&C, though... and there's always DMC4.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. It's been a long time... it feels like I'm starting over. Congrats (obviously belated) to you, Ben. Arnold is a great guy to work with. You both obviously have your hands full, but you're doing an excellent job. Keep it up!

I would recommend Calling All Cars if you want a great party/online game. Simple fun, only $10!

I'll tell you one thing that's irking me already... installations, patches, and downloads take for-freaking-ever. I'm trying to update my NHL 08 roster, and there are 8 files to download. EIGHT.

Gran Turismo Concept only took about 90 minutes to download.

My internet connection probably sucks ass, but wow.

I'm loving High Velocity Bowling, though. :-)

haha.. once you have all those patches you wont have to install another for some time.

Motorstorm i think has had four or five patches since day one... and if you have just booted it up for the first time and doing the patch, it takes hours!

but once done its done!

personally i want more FW updates, cant wait for HOME, thats one update that will be amazing.

If you make a Japanese account you can get some very nifty things! the GT5 Prologue demo isnt on the Jp store now, but when it was a few of us here downloaded it.. whoa!!

you see that demo you have is pretty old, its still good! but its old. the new prologue demo was awesome, no other word for it, an incredible demo that i will still play until i get Prologue next month.

but the differences between the two demos in terms of graphics, gameplay, playability, control etc etc.. is a mile stone.

we havent got Pain or Bowling yet.. im interested in that sky diving!! skiing sucked tho, but i still brought it
