Exclamation Buggy PS3

My Ebay Purchased "AS IS" PS3 (won't power on) was truely buggy. Got it yesterday and took it apart. Swapped in another Power Supply and it initially worked fine but then stopped reading discs. I had noticed a lot of fine debris on the metal plating. So I lifted the BD player out and there was about four dead roaches under it. I looked in between the circuit board and the bottom of the BD and sure enough there were dead cockroaches there too. Finally I took the whole thing apart and cleaned out the debris/ legs, wings, carcasses from every where. After putting it back together it worked fine for several hours..In the meantime I took apart the original power supply and sure enough it had three dead roaches in it...One of them had apparantly electricuted himself by getting between the inner most fuze and the copper heat sink which then blew the fuze...After removing the carcasses, I replaced the fuze which is a pita because it is soldered in and in a bad spot to boot. Now the original power supply works as well. It certainly was a buggy machine. I did take pictures of the two roaches that actually caused problems but they are not very good. Two questions remain: 1.Where did the XBOX fanboy find or train these suicide cockroaches and 2. If this had been returned to SONY under warrantee would they have denied service because of bugs in the PS3.

wth lol. The best thing is for you not to buy a system "AS IS" off of ebay. Opening that PS3 just nailed the service warrenty huge. Stick to buying non elec stuff off ebay next time lol.

Totally, have 310.15 including shipping in this now working 60GB system which is not really available anymore. Even if I have to pay Sony $150 to fix it in the future, I would still come out OK. I would certainly not recommend that anyone else follow this route. The useage of "bugs in the computer" came into being when computers were mechanical relays and it was literally true that bugs would crawl in and mess them up. I am just surprised that as far as we have come in sixty years we can still suffer from the same problems. Now I just wish I knew how to do closeup pictures.

How the heck did they get inside there?

LOL, hopefully you left the guy neutral feedback for giving you a bugged ps3!

They like warmth and will fit through the ventilation slots, did not find any egg sacks. There was even one dead one the same size as the BD one between the on/off/eject circuit board and its metal frame and that space is small. Last save on hard drive was Jan 2007, so think it just sat around for a while and when it was finnally turned on they were fried. Surmise that as the power supply started to warm up they started to run around in there and that is when the big guy got electrocuted and blew the fuze. This unit was a store return so no telling where/when it happened. "AS IS" means exactly that so can't complain about the extras provided. At least it was a "cheap" fix.
