erm.. In what way? 40gig ps3's can only play ps1 and ps3 games. The 20 and 60gig play ps1, ps2 and ps3.
Is that what you meant?

lol, yeh. Its a shame. But the public demanded it, they had to cut the cost of the machine.
The 20gig went ages ago, the uk never got that model, now u can only buy old stock of 60gig ps3s.

I thinks its a real shame. U have mobile phones more expensive than what thd ps3 was, yet no outcry there.

I'm hoping backwards compatibility for either the PS3 or PS4 comes back at some point.

The 60GB, due to the graphics synthesizer chip, had full b/c for both PS1 and PS2 games. No other model has that chip; the 80GB model uses software emulation (like the Xbox 360) for PS2 games, which means it can play some, but not all. The 40GB can only play PS1 games and not PS2 games.

So it looks like I'm gonna be saving up a bit more for that 80GB

And with the release of more fw updates, more games are added to the b/c list?

Hey its not so bad, man, i got bc since i only own a ps2 ............... for now anyways..............

bc is nice.. but when was the last ps1 game you played on the ps2?
meaning yes you would use bc on the ps3, but there will come a point just like with the ps1 games, you'll just play ps3 games.
if you really want to play ps2 games. dont throw out your ps2!!

Every summer it's become a ritual for me to play and complete Ape Escape. I'm just weird that way.

Eh, not me. I still love to play plenty of PS1 and PS2 games, just like I still love to play several SNES games. I play PS1 classics like FFVII, FFT, Castlevania: SotN, Twisted Metal 2, Alundra, Lunar: SSSC, etc. almost every year, and I think I'm always going to want to do that. I have plenty of PS2 games I still want to go back and play again, too, so b/c is a huge deal for me. This is why I'm hoping my 60GB lasts a looooooong time.
