Default EA!

From Gamesindustry…

Keith Ramsdale, EA's VP and general manager for UK and Ireland, has told GamesIndustry.biz he believes that the future of the PlayStation 3 is strong - but consumers are waiting for quality software titles to arrive."If you look at FIFA 08, on its first weekend the PS3 numbers were 75 per cent of the Xbox 360 numbers, despite the 360 having a massively higher install base.
"That's not that the 360 has underperformed, not for a moment. That's because the appetite for a quality game on the PS3 is there and maybe FIFA is the first game to come and show where the quality is.
"I think PS3 consumers are waiting for the right game and they want to see the quality."
He also pointed to the console's price cut as a positive move for publishers as well as consumers. "Of course the hardware sales increased dramatically when the price cut happened and that's absolutely part of it. Ray Maguire said himself that they were planning that, it was part of their strategy and I absolutely understand that.
"But what I would say is that the software sales against a hardware install base on a good game like FIFA - the PS3 outpunches its weight in attachment to the hardware. So now the price drop has happened, the hardware is going to grow, and we're in for a great time."Ramsdale spoke to GamesIndustry.biz in his capacity as chairman of the London Games Festival as well as his EA role, and was pleased that the event had gathered a lot of attention this year.
"The difference year on year is pretty much broad industry support and really good mainstream media attention - ITV, BBC, broadsheets

Now, I agree that we do need more quality games, but this to me is just someone blaming someone else for EA being rubbish and lazy. I say, instead of talking about Fifa and how popular it was, think maybe if they actually put more effort in to ‘making’ a game rather than porting one, spending more time on it, and releasing it late and then complaining about how hard it is to work with the PS3.. why don’t they just do a good job and make it on the PS3 separately from the 360?
Imo, they too could have amazing sales figures if they make decent games. Look at CoD4.. everyone I know has that, on the main page there’s a report that it might even challenge Halo3 in terms of sales. I cant imagine what the figures are for Cod on the PS3, but I bet its massive, and its only been out a week!!!
We are currently waiting on HalfLife2, I know it will be cool, and I know I will buy it (unless its REALLY rubbish), but I have a big feeling this extra time that they have making HL2 isn’t to make it the best they can or to experiment and explore the PS3 hardware.. I would say its to make some port work half decent, and that upsets me. Mainly because you see games like Drakes, Cod4, HS, Oblivion, MS and RFOM etc etc and think EA could do a really decent job. Like UT3.. EA could be out there boasting about it or like Killzone2 wowing the crowds, but instead EA are saying that they cant work with it, some so called gaming Guru shouting off about how rubbish it is and the whole company not backing the PS3 like they have done with the other two Playstations.

Ive said it before.. but I wouldn’t be that gutted if EA left the PS brand and went to MS or Nintendo exclusive.. yes there are certain games I would miss, but I would rather have something quality from someone who understood the hardware like Square, Activision, Naughty Dog and everyone else who has decided that it’s a worth while journey to learn how to use and program for the PS3.

Imo EA are a bit of an embarrassment, yes they’re making some ok games, but it’s the excuses that they make and the blatant way they dismiss the fact that it could be their fault, and why they cant use the PS3. Rather than educating their team on the hardware.

Rant over

This bit made me laugh pretty damn hard:

"FIFA is the first game to come and show where the quality is."

That's not what I've heard!

If EA had been more willing to put effort in from the word go, they'd be seeing great sales right now on many more of their games.

Im not going anywhere near any EA game for a while(apart form the HL2 Port Im led to belive thier doing) Im sick of thier BS, I mean in a golf game theres not much happening on screen yet the frame rate dropped quicker than a Whores knickers, it got on my nerves and I got rid of it, they need to get thier act together.

Eurogamer's review for EA's Need For Speed ProStreet (5/10) includes the following section:

Quote:
EA also uses your broadband connection to serve in-game advertising, and it may not be overly intrusive (it's not like EA doesn't already fill its own games with fairly blatant self-promotion), but squeezing you for shareholder value is taken to an alarming new level at times here. One of the load screens tells you to send EA an SMS to buy the ProStreet mobile games, and every time you buy a car in the shop you're asked whether you want to use in-game cash (i.e. what you've worked for) or Microsoft Points. You can already download premium bundles of cars from Live to save you the trouble of actually unlocking them, which seems a bit pointless to me, and also neatly breaks the difficulty curve of the game for anyone who does it anyway.
Despite their pledge to focus on quality titles there still isn't much sign of it yet. The fact that they've purchased a quality developer like BioWare makes it all the more worrying.

yeh, i couldnt agree more..

this just leaves a really horrid taste in my mouth.

i noticed when i had Tiger woods (DK's Fav game) that while in game they linked you to the internet and gave you sport scores an news from around the world, i thought that this was in fact a fantastic idea. but then i realised that i could turn it off, but that wasnt my choice when i started the game. thats when i felt a bit uncomfortable about it.

Always hooked up and plugged in to EA's little world, *shudder* ..really isnt a good thing.

so i guess that advertising is their next step, and that disgusts me.. where will it end?

there was a time when games like NFS were brilliant, great games and were made with quality and care. but these lazy ports are terrible, and they must show EA in a bad bad light.

im not saying that if EA dont support the PS3 they will go down or under, but imagine if they had done the same thing with the PS2? look at where the PS2 was, is now.

well, sod em i say!
