I've been doing some searching, and according to IGNs latest release dates revisions list there isn't a single RPG (Outside an expansion disc for Elder Scrolls) due out for the PS3 until the second quarter of 2008. Even then the game slated is Free Realms, an MMO I'm not even vaguely familiar with.
Considering how heavy the RPG market was (is) on the PS2, this comes as a bit of shock. I know it's still very early in the consoles life cycle, however, the emphasis on shooters and action titles is a little disheartening, especially being an avid RPG fan myself. |

It's not all that surprising. It takes a while for the RPG devs to really embrace a new platform. For example, Nippon Ichi has only recently announced Disgaea 3 for the PS3, and they've been content with producing more games for the PS2. Same goes for Atlus and a few others.
There wasn't an RPG worth buying during the first year of the PS2's reign, either; FF X was the first must-have, and that didn't arrive until December 2001, 14 months after the PS2 launched in October 2000. Before FF X, all we really had was stuff like Summoner, Okage, and I think a Harvest Moon. The PS3 does have Enchanted Arms, which isn't a bad RPG, so that's one option. Other than that, you'll have to wait until 2008. White Knight Story, Disgaea 3, The Last Remnant, and more are on the way. ![]()

Yeah, I played many a lacklustre PS2 RPG in the early days of the console. Generally those who will do it well will be the ones who don't do it quickly.

same for you Ricky.. just go buy FFXII or Dark Cloud 2, or some other PS2 RPG if you cant find anything on the PS3. but if you havent played Oblivion on the 360 or PS3, then i urge you to pick it up, its incredible.

Haha.
Sadly, I've played every PS2 RPG you mentioned, as well as Oblivion. And just about every other PS2 RPG that I was remotely interested in. I did just complete my umpteenth play through of Chrono Trigger, and am getting ready to tackle Cross again. |

I'm getting ready to play Chrono Cross again, but Xenogears would be awesome.
I no longer have a copy, I sold off my awesome collection of PSOne RPGs years ago. I'll have to hit up eBay or something. The Lunar games would be a treat, too. |
