improve PS3 framerate...yourself!!

This is very very interesting!

Someone over at the Playstation forum has found a way to fix frame jumping in games (lol..wtf). a guy called ‘iBrad’ has started a thread called “Improve your PS3 framerates by disabling some setting in XMB”

Now normally I would go “yeh, whatever…” but there seems to be something in this.. here is his post, and of course a link to the thread itself.

“Hi, I've found the following improvements for better and smoother framerates for ps3 games.
Like set the BD/DVD upscaler set off,HDMI 24fps off, HDMI audio set on bitstream, PS2 upscaler/smoother set off.
Disable system display notify/ mediaserver off / all other automatic setting set to off / internet disable if not multiplaying and other setting etc will all help improve framerates.

I tested all the games with HDMI 720p, and all games runs more smoother, speed and more responsive, I think cell dont have to spend time in the background from those settings before.

Let us know if this also helps the framerates for you too”

now I urge you all to try it if you like, mainly because one guy who is called ‘Morpheusxxx’ has said that he has tried this and has only (at this point ) seen the intro to Motorstorm, and its jump free!! Now if that’s true, then there are a few things this might work with!

so.. ive tried it!

now, i am not going to say it works amazingly and fixes everything, but there is a difference! instead of a glaring stoppage in the motorstorm start up (it REALLY wasnt that bad anyway! lol) it has made it less of a jump, thats for sure.. but its still there you can see it.

has it stopped frame jumping in games etc?.. well, i played a lil Motorstorm, Ratchet and Skate.. all seems fine, tho.. all three were fine before!

skate gets a little choppy at times, so i will keep my eye on that one.

i dont know why i bother checking... but i did. My 'Nat Type' was Type 3. if any of you dont know what this means, it basicaly means that Nat Type 1 and 2 means you can play most of not all PS3 games that are online compatible online. but i was always Type 3, meaning some games i could not play over the internet... Darkness for one and RidgeRacer was another.

ive just checked after changing these settings and now im Nat Type 2!! i will have to keep my eye on it and test it a few more times as seeing as im using a wireless connection for PS3 online, it could be subject to change. but it could well mean better online gaming if you change these settings.

Personally i think the key to this, is if we, them or who ever make a big enough noise and Sony hear.. they may release firmware that will turn off and on these settings automatically when playing games and watching BRD movies etc...

i hope they do, it would make sense for Sony to do such a thing if this 'trick' with the settings is an all round success.

DK mentioned something about Nat problems. He might be able to post more details later. I'm not going to try this now but I'll probably print it and refer to it later if needs be. I think the sony update would be a good thing.

ive just checked and im still Nat Type 2..

shame i sold the darkness after i was done with it... this obviiously breathes new life in to any game you couldnt play before.

dudes I don't think the NAT has anything to do with those settings, in my case it's just my home hub acting like an @sshole, Type 3 stoppted me using chat in some games and the the XMB, so I made a static IP and forwarded a shit load of ports (range 80 to 6999) to that IP and that brought me to Type 2 which is fine for all games Ive played so far and XMB chat works also

I won't claim I know a great deal about this but its to do with puting holes in you routers firewall, the home hub likes to fill these back in for some reason and it turns the UPnP on and off randomly. I think on most routers its a lot easier to set up a DMZ.

others will be able to explain this better than me.

yep, i agree.. it 'shouldnt ' change the Nat type, but it has.. basically the guy said turn anything that says 'automatic' off.. so i did, and its still Nat Type 2 (hurrah).

i too have BT home Hub, and when my contract runs out, i will so be moving to someone else!!! its not that i dont like taking to guys in India about why i havent had BB for three weeks, or doing their job for them (ie: changing filters, and basically fixing it ourselves!!), its not that i dont think that they even know what they hell they are saying (because even tho they say theyre highly qualified engineers.. i dont fkg believe it, just no way they can be after talking to them and asking them questions).. its the fact that BT pretend to care, and offer a quality service and yet they dont, thats why im going to leave.. god i hate BT.

and hate is such a strong word.

I do feel sorry for the guys in India who obviously are reading from a script... but dear god, if they dont knwo how to fix it, just say and send a fkg engineer to my house.

lol My Dad works for BT and he has said the same as you pretty much, I don't find the service to be all that bad but the router and sofware is shite, I don't blame you for changing

I have been to portforward.com, you might find your mic works better on Motorstorm for having NAT2
