im looking in to buying a ext HDD for the PS3, but theres soooo many out there, i have no idea which ones work and what not.


so anyone here that has one or knows about them?

im looking for 500gig. lol... mainly because theres so much happening with the PS3 in the near future that 500g is about right when thinking about demo's, HOME, that TIVO thing plus all the PSN titles coming out.


so, any advice about which one to pick?

Well I haven't hooked up any external HDD to my PS3 directly through USB yet. The solution I have come up with is an External Network HDD from Western Digital, 500gb MyBookWorld Edition. What I do is have it connected to my home network wireless modem/router so all my computers can have access to it and use as extended backup storage.

But if you go for a normal plug n play External USB HDD. I think when you plug it into your PS3 the first time you must format the HDD to the PS3 standard for it to work properly just like PS3s own HDD.


Personally I am thinking about buying a new inernal hdd for my ps3, The internal HDD in PS3 is 2.5" S-ATA. The same you will find inside a laptop.

You can pick any size of 2.5" S-ATA Hard Drive for your PS3, you will not break the warrent by doing this.

didnt realise you could buy a new internal HDD for the PS3..

well, after talking to a few people, BG has a friend who's got a job testing ext Bulldog HDD's on the PS3 (whats the chances eh??!?)

anyway, he's recommended one that as soon as you plug it in its good to go, so i think i will go for that.

but thats interesting about the internal HDD!

where can you buy one from?

£80 for 500gb? That is pretty sweet. I'm happy with what I have for now but at that sort of price I know where to look when I need that extra capacity.
