That's the most important thing, and that, in my opinion, should be weighted when scoring the game. That's not to say the other stuff isn't important to the overall package, it just isn't nearly as important. If a game doesn't play well, then, to me, it's not worth playing, no matter how hard the development crew worked on the other stuff.
Don't be obtuse. I never said my method for judging games is the "be all and end all." I specifically said I weight gameplay more than any other category. But I also said that every aspect of a video game factors into the overall quality, and to say otherwise is STUPID.

Nobody said Heavenly Sword plays like crap. It's a ton of fun to play. Just because it's not as deep as NG or DMC doesn't automatically make it worthless, especially considering HS's presentation and technicals are superior to just about every other action title in existence. If you want to pretend that doesn't mean anything, that's your business.

I never said the other stuff doesn't matter. I said it does, just not as much. And I didn't mean to imply that it plays like crap, I probably could have worded that better. The game play mechanics and combat system are fine, there just isn't a lot of depth and the battles and puzzles get extremely repetitive after awhile. It's not a particularly compelling gameplay experience, which is why I think giving it a 7 or thereabouts is perfectly resonable, especially when you factor in "lasting appeal" like IGN does.

I barely play mine now as I don't have the spare time and I still think it was worth it for the time I got to play Resistance and Motorstorm. If you guys get prologue, and MGS4 due by Christmas, I'd expect most houses in the US to have a PS3.

Expect more and more price drops if the quality games arent pouring forth during the holidays. So far it looks pretty clear that just like with the ps2 that software is dished out in very small doses at a few times of the year, at least so far. If that is the case then it makes any rush to buy a system pretty much a moot point for anytime soon for me. I havent been able to get into the console routine again for a while, even though i quit WoW about six weeks ago...

Default finally bit the bullet

well, talking with a friend today about the current console generation and the PS3, i got all riled up and excited about the console...so, with credit card in tow, I took the plunge by snagging a 60 Gig from Best Buy earlier today - always had my eye on getting it there since they have a free game/controller deal going on until the 16th (b/t LAIR and Heavenly Sword) - and naturally, I picked up Heavenly Sword.

since i've heard nothing but good about it, despite the concerns some of you have already said (i too questioned the 60 bones for it) but now that it came free... i think this should be an excellent introduction to my first foray into this "next-gen" era

HS is one hell of a game, we love it here at PSXE.. well, those of us who have it anyway.

i completed it last weekend, and im just in love with it. yes its short, but i couldnt put all my effort in to that one game just yet. i have too many games to play to do that.

BUT for me HS is the first true Next Gen title that anyone with a PS3 must play. i played the demo and was "meh" about it.... i took the plunge after thinking about it long and hard, now i cant beleieve i waited so long to decide to buy it.

do you have a PSN name? do want to be added? lol... not as scary as it sounds, just makes you look good when people ask if you know all those people on your PSN list

PS: you didnt pick up Lair, no? Hmmm..i would like to know what people think about that. its out here in a couple of weeks.. obviously im going to pick up COD4 first, but like HS, i'll think about the game way too much and end up buying it. though, i know that Lair probably wont be such a pleasant surprise as HS turned out to be.

Tho the gameplay isn't really next-gen its still an awesome experience, there are some aspects that are a little iffy imo but you'd be hard pressed to find a game thats perfect on any system, fantastic game and a great achievement, I love it.
