Default FIFA 08 Demo

I'm a big fan of the FIFA games. Anyone had a chance to download the 800MB demo from the PS3 Store?

I did and I thought it was very poor.
But then again, I have always been a Pro Evo fan.
But after seeing how good the faces are in PES2008 from various sites and then seeing the close ups on the Fifa 08 demo, they looked extremely poor.
As for the gameplay I thought it was slow and unresponsive and I didnt like the animations.

Unfortunately I'd have to agree. I was expecting MUCH more. I'm hoping that this is not going to be the quality of the final product.

I haven't played a FIFA game in a long time and I have given up on the Pro Soccer franchise after Pro Soccer 4 as its always the same game.

After reading about FIFA and the ball controls and seeing FIFA in action it did seem promissing. I tried the demo and I do think they move realisticly as when you run with the ball you have to stop control the ball, turn, control the ball some more and then you run with the ball. If you see it on TV they don't run with the ball and in split second timing run the oppisite way like in Pro Soccer. In FIFA the ball isn't glued to your feet, so if your running with the ball, the ball may be 3 feet away and you would need to stop the ball before you can do anything else, like in real football. You'll be pressing the buttons quickly but seeing it act slower on screen, remember this isn't Ninja Gaiden Soccer?
The closer the games become to real life the less we'll like the games.

After saying all that I still didn't think much of the game, maybe becasue I couldn't score, lol. But those graphics are terrible. When I was playing, the camera was positioned in the default view, which is high up similar to Pro Soccer, but i thought I was playing Lego Soccer. The HD videos I've been watching are a better quality than the game itself.
My mate said not to worry as it will look better when it comes out but honestly, I think that demo is will close to the final representation of the full game upon release.

I don't know whats going on but the demos on the 360 are looking better than the final copies on the PS3. First it was Stranglehold that had serious jaggy problems, then NBA live, and now FIFA 08. NHL demo was crisp clean and sharp so why hasn't EA done the same with the others?
The one I'm most bothered about is Stranglehold and I hope the retail version is a big improvement but how am I supposed to know this? Based off the demos the 360 version is the one thats has crisp, clean smooth graphics but I don't know if the final PS3 copy will? But the PS3 version has way better controls, they were much smoother.
I don't think reviews will help unless there is a comparison and the review mentions how much the PS3 version has improved over the demo, and has AA.

yeh, i was surprised about the graphics! maybe they are keeping them rubbish so the online play will stay the same graphically?

as for 360 games looking better than PS3 games.. true, but its because theyre lazy.. look at the 'good' ports.. R6, GRAW (all will have people arguing over which is better) and DiRT is better too.. yet people still refuse to hear it.

this time next year mark my words, people will be seeing some incredible games out for the ps3, mainly because they put effort in to it.

all these lazy developers who are complining about how they cant make a decent game for us, yet Hideo shows the world along with Polyphony that infact they and the PS3 can easily do these things and much much more... but it takes know how and effort.

bad workmen blame their tools as they say.

Not really noticed the difference on appearance. Will have to stick on stranglehold demos on both machines one after the other and see if I can tell.

There are a lot of lazy ports out there for sure. It's such a shame that these still sell. It would make developers change there approach if the ported games lost them money.

I need to get some game time and dl the fifa demo to see for myself.

Bamf How can you comment on Pro if you havent played it since 4?
Last time I played PES6 which was yesterday, the ball wasnt glued to my players' feet.

I never said I haven't played a Pro Soccer game. I give up on the franchise after Pro Soccer 4> Meaning I have Pro Soccer 4 and played Pro 5 and didn't like it. I have also played 06 in store and on my mates 360. I didn't like the game and felt the franchise still hadn't moved forward. My mate who has owned all of the previous Pro Soccer titles before Pro 6, took back the Pro Soccer 6 the day after. Maybe this was due to the 360 controls but I didn't find anyone who liked this game.

I have to disagree about the ball sticking to the feet, it certainly felt like it.

Pro Soccer 8 for the 360 looks like a graphical update from the previous game. But I think I read that the PS3 version will be the true next-gen version and will be superior to the 360 version. I will have to try it out first.

Pro Evo 6 for the Xbox 360 was horrible. So no wonder you didnt like it!
Pro 6 on the PS2 was loads better.
The 360 version was totally rushed, they updated the graphics obviously but left out alot of features that were in the PS2 version.
And the control and responsiveness was ALOT slower than on the PS2.

and PES2008 is going to be identical on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
There was only a difference in the 2 playable demos at Leipzig but ive read Konami are saying it will be fixed for final release.

www.winningelevenblog.com

They have some great coverage of the game.
