Default PS3 Hardware Version

Hi there gamers!

I want to wait to buy a ps3 till there are newer versions on the market! I saw that there were many differences between a PS2 V1 and a V7 Version!
But I can't find any informations which PS3-Version is on the market at the moment, or how you can find out the version from the Model-Number!
Or are there only new Firmware updates planned for the PS3?

cheers

That depends where you are. In the US you can look forward to an 80gb machine running emulation for PS1 and PS2 games.

There are firmware updates to to fine tune things.

I did read somewhere there'll be a 40gb version but I wouldn't bother with that one.

yes, heard about that! But i mean a complete redesign of the whole hardware as they made from the ps2! Better lasers, new designed mainboard etc.
Two year after the start of ps2 you got a better Hardware for a lower price! so its more profitable!

Rregards

I can't see that coming for another year or two so if you can wait that long you're a better man than me

I don't think there have been any official announcements but it would make sense sometime down the line.

its like the psp.. we wont get a new design like Gabe says for a long time. its because theres firmware updates that keep the older models bang up to date.

really it comes down to 20,40,60 or 80 gig ps3s... the 40 isnt out yet, and the 20 has been discontinued. so really its between 60 and 80 gig...

which can you afford?

the only difference is emu for ps1 and ps2 games, but in a years time you probably wont even put a ps1/2 game in the machine.

Wait and see for the Sony announcements at TGS. If Sony issues a price drop on the 80GB model down to $499 and a new 40GB model for $399, as long as both SKU's have identical hardware and features, the only difference is HDD space, then I suggest getting the 40GB one for $399. For an extra $100 you could get yourself a 160gb HDD which is double than whaat SOny offers you. I've just ordered a 160gb HDD for £54 ($108) not includine P + P its a Fugistu, I hope its good?
And you could use the other 40gb HDD to back-up most important games like WarHawk? As WarHawk is tied with your account not the PS3 or HDD. You do not lose your account, settings or fimware version as they're in the flash memory in the PS3.
