Publishers really need to know when these systems are coming out to give themselves appropriate target numbers for game shipments. And if there was a chance the PS3 would be delayed, the big publishers (like Ubisoft) would have an inkling by now. I'm not saying a delay can't happen, but this is just how I see it.

When MGS4 comes out. Currently Sony has given me ZERO reason to spend $600. MGS4, however, is worth that much to me.

With European launch and hot electronic gizmos commanding high price tags (like the iPhone at $600 w/2 year service contract), I don't see a reason for Sony to drop the price until 2009, maybe 2008 holiday season at best. The drop would probably be $150 at most.

I'll bet you lunch on it, Val. If Sony doesn't drop the price by November of this year, I will literally fly to New York and buy you lunch. ![]() |

Get that lunch money ready
![]() PS3 will be hot the next holiday for 4 reasons:
Plus, Xbox 360 price didn't drop after 1 year and Sony has been extremely tight with price reductions on the PSP, and a price reduction is definitely warranted for the PSP especially with the low cost of Nintendo portables. My 2 cents ![]() |

Oh snap it's ON, Val!
I see the big thing being momentum. Sony just doesn't have it right now and MS is giving KILLER deals on the 360. Sony will need more than Blu Ray and a few AAA games to recover the momentum they need. They're going to need a price drop. If you lose, you'll get to fly out to San Fran and buy ME lunch Of course, while you're out here we can go interview some developers and you can write the whole thing off as a business expense ![]() |

I make no predictions, but you guys should probably clarify...are you talking about a possible price drop in 2007 in the UK or the U.S.? What happens if it drops in one place and not the other, like when Sony dropped the price of the 20GB PS3 in Japan for launch?
Personally, by looking strictly at the sales numbers for the PS2 and PSP - especially in the UK - and the MUCH better launch lineup scheduled for the UK PS3 launch, I have difficulty thinking Sony has lost much in the way of momentum. They never really had any going into the launch, anyway, not with the 360 already out; Sony begins this generation playing catch-up in the first place. But I also believe the PS3 will sell just fine this year, in all regions. You might find them on the shelves now, but A. it's January. NOBODY has much money after the holidays, and B. good games spur hardware sales. It's that simple. If the PS3 has the games, AND, perhaps just as importantly, the best multiplat versions of games (this will be very helpful if it happens, due to the number of games choosing to go multi this generation), than it will sell. If it sells, Sony will NOT drop that price. With the amount of money they dumped into the thing, and the fact they're STILL losing $200 on each system sold, it would have to take some pretty drastic under-selling for Sony to drop the price this year. That's my two cents. ![]()

X-Squad was a launch title on the PS2 and frankly that game was pretty rank but I still wouldn't want to have missed out playing it. If I had enough to buy a PS3 and a couple of games I'd be more than happy to pick from the selection available. I'd be looking at getting 1 game every few months if that, so having very few AAA titles wouldn't bother me.

The funny thing is that gta4 is also on 360 (a slim possible MGS on 360 also) so if mgs does go on to the 360 lets say march 2008 (I think there's a ps3 exclusive for 6 months or My bad) then there's only gt5 on the PS3 that I'm looking at.
Of course PGR4 could take some of that (GT5 will be of course a system app for the PS3 as will MGS) but add Halo 3 into that mix and alot of things will happen at Christmas 2007. I think Sony knows that if MGS jumps to 360 also, the only thing that Sony has is GT5 as a killer app. For HDTV's in Canada, the amount of channels is still crap. The CRTC in Canada loves Canadian programming and limits the amount of USA channels (including HD) that we get. I think that the HD channels will increase in 2007 (not by much) For people to buy a HDTV just for the PS3 could be a factor. I'm still waiting on buying a HDTV cause of the HD content here. Even with the biggest cable outlet in the west (Shaw Cable) they are lacking huge on HD. Here's the list for shaw: HDTV 301 Sportsnet HD HDTV 302 Movie Central HD HDTV 303 KOMO - ABC Seattle HD HDTV 304 KIRO - CBS Seattle HD HDTV 305 KING - NBC Seattle HD HDTV 306 KSPS - PBS Spokane HD HDTV 307 KCPQ - FOX Seattle HD HDTV 308 TSN - HD HDTV 309 CBC - HD HDTV 311 CFTO - CTV Toronto HD HDTV 312 Discovery HD HDTV 313 A&E HD HDTV 314 National Geographic HD HDTV 315 Showcase HD That's not much programming. With those USA channels, the CRTC is pushing that amount of US channels huge. Bell Canada, Star Choice, Videotron and Rogers offer the same amount and maybe 2 or 3 more. I know that watching HD on tv is only a small aspect of getting a HD tv cause of HD-DVD and Blue-Ray, but you guys know that TV is a big part of HDTV's also. So in my mind, just buying a HDTV for the PS3 or even the 360 (I'm happy with my reg 32inch tv due to the cables providing a wicked picture) the content on HD for tv viewing and me not buying a single HD-DVD or blu-ray movie until the format war is resolved (Even then, I'm still not happy about my DVD collection going the way of VHS sooner or later) I won't get a HDTV until I'm certain I need one. The stand alone 360 HD-DVD player is not even on my list due to the fact that there's only a couple of movies that I'm interested in and even then they are re-releases in that format. Of course new 24 season starting Sunday in HD would be a :O! I won't get one. My 2 cents and some change from my couch :P Last edited by cAtDaFeLiX : 01-12-2007 at 10:55 AM. |
