I just got thinking about the PS4 and it's predicting what game you might like based on your gaming preferences and I just remembered waking up one morning a few weeks back and God of War Ascension beta or demo was installed. Maybe this was Sony testing the ability to do so out. Now I've no interest in God of War at all, period, but there it was. I remember being a little annoyed that it was sitting there when I didn't choose to download it. I don't have a cap limit on my broadband so that didn't bother me but it was taking up space on my HDD. Now if I was someone who did have a cap on my broadband or was running out of space on my HDD, I'd be fairly pissed. I do hope this feature is optional. Other than that I'm completely digging this machine.
On a side note, the PC crowd are already talking about having much better spec's available to them which kinda out-dates the PS4 already. What are peoples thoughts on that, taking into account we're going to have these consoles for at least the next six years? Is it fair to compare the PC crowd to the console world? Should we just keep comparing consoles against consoles? When you think about it, there's a lot of games that come out across all platforms including PC's. What's your take on it? |

unlike the new xbox the ps4 can be used offline and will have a variety of options covering this, so I'm sure you will be able to disable what ever features you are not happy about.
I'm just going to preorder mine now.... ![]()

I can say that I am excited about a new system but I'm not "a school girl about to get her cherry popped" giddy. The new features sound cool and you can tell that many things, including the cloud, will be a work-in-progress so I'll play the wait and see game. As long as there are fun games, then I'm on board. If there are fun games coming to the next Xbox, then I'll be getting one of those two but of course, for the exclusives. I may even get a Wii U some day... in the far future... |

Secondly, I think that it just is not right to compare a console and a multi-purpose PC 1:1. Problem is, now with the x86 architecture in the Playstation it is so much easier to do just that. So that will be done forever and ever. The huge advantage of consoles is that they are all one defined set of hardware specs. No variations, if you are writing a piece of software for the PS4 you know *exactly*, down to the last little chip, what every single player will play it on. This is a crazy big advantage cause you don't need to make your code compatible with lesser hardware, and you can just totally ignore higher end hardware. You can write for maximum performance on that specific box. Just look at the PS3 and the graphics they managed to produce through those pretty standard, and eventually seriously outdated Nvidia chipsets that were found inside this machine. There's just no way in hell a regular PC were able to produce the same with a graphics card that had equal chipsets. No way - it wasn't even comparable. But not much will change in this respect: PC gamers will keep talking about their PC hardware, and Xbox and Playstation owners will continue to sling mudballs at eachother. And right in the midst of all that we will enjoy games written for a system that opens up for much, much more than the PS3 ever allowed for. Last edited by Beamboom; 02-23-2013 at 03:21 PM. |
