Question Console Zones

Could someone please let me know how to find out about console zones and why asian games don't play on my Australian PS2. Is there any thing I can do to the console to change this? Thanks in advance, your knowledge is appreciated.

hi.. your posting in the PS2 section so i take it you have a PS2?

then im afraid the answer is no. there are dodgy mods that you can open up your ps2 and stick on to the mother board or I believe the NeoKey might still be about, but turning your region of PS2 in to a multi region ps2.. it will never happen unless you do something drastic.

there are NTSC regions and PAL regions around the world.. the EU and OZ (i believe ) can use the same games. Japan/asia can use the same games and the states are on their own. these are devided up in to regions...

EU(PAL) is region 2. USA (NTSC) are region 1 and Japan/Asia are NTSC but i dont know what region. on the games i have they says Region 2, the same as the EU.. but as we're PAL and Asia is NTSC.. the games will never work on the same PS2.
I have a feeling Oz games are PAL region, and thats why they work on an EU PS2, but check out on other forums before buying EU games, because if they dont work then you dont want to be spending money on dead games. but i do have a feeling the EU and Oz can play the same titles.

also if youre in the UK and have a 50htz telly, NTSC games will not work as they require 60htz in order to work. otherwise you will either get a black and white/green screen or one that rolls constantly.
Being in Oz you wll need to check this out.

but in this day of HD Tellys, the Htz thing isnt a problem.

my advice is ..buy a PS3. the PS2 games still wont be multi region, but 99% of PS3 games are.

just dont buy the Australian vrsion of GTA4!!
