Very hard to explain realy. It's set in 1930's England, and is centred around a girl called Jennifer, and a bunch of realy weird girls.
The plot is almost impossible to explain here, but the game has been banned in several countries including the UK. I have a American import, but I can't seem to find anyone I can discuss the game with.
If you want to know more, then just Google Rule of Rose.

I remember playing it for the review-

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps2-reviews/499.html

It was a very atmospheric game, and if I recall correctly, it was bogged down by sluggish and flawed gameplay. But it was very unique and a well-done survival/horror title, for the most part. It just focused a lot more on the environment and story than the actual gameplay, which is the reason for that score.

Seems like the power of the press makes an arse of itself yet again.

Sounds like it could have been a dark and deeply scary game. I'll check out the review Ben. (I didn't even think to check if PSXE had reviewed it, it sounding like quite an obscure title and all.)

I think if you look, we've got a LOT of obscure PS2 titles covered. Heck, I even reviewed Chulip.

I remember that Chulip review. I laughed so hard I nearly peed.

I agree with you Ben regarding game play. It does let the game down to some extent, but the controls are by far the worst I have ever encounted !! That being said, I find the game totaly fascinating and very adictive. As for the bad press, I can't understand what all the fuss is about. Resident Evil and Silent Hill are far, far worse IMO.
I find it hard to understand why anyone could make claims against a game, when those who make the claims, have never even played, or seen , the game they are complaing about. Yet another form of PC ???

I saw the intro on Youtube and it is completely misleading regarding the essence of the game. If I saw just that I might think it was much more sinister than it really is. (The bit with the girl raising her skirt, the apparent buried alive scene and the two girls who are pretending to be a boy and a girl and rubbing noses).

Despite the misleading intro I still don't see it as a reason for banning the title.

It was only banned in certain parts of Europe (I believe), and that's just because there was some imagery they didn't like. Whenever the story features children in a survival/horror setting, and it's relatively clear abnormal and potentially Satanic things are happening to them, the ratings guys in Europe get miffed. Remember, they're more restrictive than the ESRB over here.

But in reality, no, there isn't anything more disturbing in Rule of Rose than in any other survival/horror game I've played. At least, not that I saw (I didn't finish it).
