of course they will stop producing them at some point. they will have to. Im just wondering what the future of playstation is as far as BC. The ps4 will have to do Ps1, ps2, ps3, and ps4 games. thats alot of hardware to put into something. i think they should have ALL ps1 games on PSN, and then really big/epic games of ps2, then disc BC for ps3. I wouldnt mind paying the $5-$10 for my ps1 games.

they dont need hardware support, a stable emulator will work fine. eventually when the ps2 ceases production and they stop making games for it it will be easier to make an emulator because all of the games are complete. then they can optimize it for all games, rather than just a few thousand. eg. 80gb PS3 or the Xbox 360.

Yeah i wasnt saying hardware on PS1 and ps2 but for ps3 it will probably be necessary.

My thinking is that their plan is to put an end to the PS2 soon after 2010. I think signs pointed to this coming when they released the PS3 Slim without capabilities to play PS2 games. And now rumors are emerging that they plan on selling all PS2 games over the PlayStation Network. (Rumors of Dreamcast games over PSN as well, I talked about this on my blog today). So when people's PS2's are either sold, or broke, or don't have any more room in their entertainment unit because they got a new PS3 Slim they'll have to AGAIN buy their favorite PS2 games....
So I believe they will be putting an end to the PS2 (what I feel is the most significant console in history) sometime soon.

I think they will start phasing out in mid 2010...It will probably be off the shelves a year later.

actually bro im not sure.im sure tht the ps2's days are limited.but as to how limited im not sure.i kno tht nomatter when it is considered obsolete,ill never get rid of mine.never.im sure there will be many who will do the same
