Just got myself a new GPS receiver last night, the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX, and so far it's pretty snazzy.
![]() Kind of expensive though but I wanted something I could use handheld, attached to my dash, or the handlebars of my bike, and not worry about destroying it. Only problem is that it only came with the Americas basemap, which has some major roads but really lacks detail unless I were to purchase the higher quality map sets at around $120 (US). I'm going to start geocaching when the spring (finally) comes, and probably going to get the cable for my Nikon D200 to save the GPS data in the exif tags. ![]() I have the Delorme LT-20 USB receiver too, using Delorme's Street Atlas USA 2008 for routing. It's pretty nice, maps are accurate enough, automatically recalculates routes if I get off course or try another path, and satellite acquisition is super fast most of the time. Only problem is that since it requires a laptop I have to have my computer with me at all times, and it's hard to check a laptop in the passenger seat when I'm driving. I was looking into auto laptop platforms until I decided to get the 60CSX. First off, a question if anyone has the answer; does it seem possible to transfer the maps I have from SA2008 to the handheld, or to integrate maps from other sources, or am I doomed to a low detail map or to purchase the ones provided from Garmin? Secondly, what GPS units do others have and what do you think of them? Do you use them for car, trail, geocaching or other uses? |

ME and Brandi used her dads Garmin Nuvi to go from Pittsburgh to Williamsburg this past weekend. Loved having that. Other than that Ive never used one and will most likely not buy one.

I guess I was kinda hoping more people would be interested in caching or trailriding. I ordered a mount to put it on my bike, and have the trails for Kingdom Trails in Burke VT loaded on it, and I've found 6 caches (limited recently due to lack of money for gas to drive to locations.)
Its fun because you get to go on a kind of treasure hunt, even if it's a log only cache, and get to find some really nice scenic places on your search. Really gets you out to places you probably wouldn't or even to places you've been but didn't know there was something hidden there before. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
