Default Last Harry Potter book to movie

Warner Brothers have confirmed that the last Harry Potter movie based on the Deathly Hallows will be a two parter so they don't have to edit out as much of the story.

Now, I've never read the book so I was just wondering if those who had feel this is a good idea or should they have gone for a LoR approach and simply made the movie as long as it needs to be to get the story told?

I remember there were a number of complaints over the 2nd and 3rd Pirates movies because movie 2 didn't really have a proper ending.

Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows will be released 6 months after part 1. Unless the movie was a proper ending I can see that this delay may be too much for some ardent fans.

Considering the 3rd movie in the PoTC trilogy was horrible, long, drawn out, and simply nowhere near as entertaining as the first two.... I hope that Warner gets this right. I don't really see why they have to make 2 whole movies out of it. Fact is, people don't wanna sit in a theater and watch a movie for hours, then have to go back to for another couple of hours to see the end. a 3 to 3 1/2 hour movie max should be all that is needed, if you're worried about details, leave the details for the fanatics to read the books. There was tons left out in Lord of The Rings, and it was still an amazing trilogy!

You ever sit down and watch The Lord of The Rings (EXTENDED EDITION) all in a single day? By the time it's over, you're begging for somebody to just kill Frodo or the world to end so the movie will just be over! It's amazingly done, but it's so long, by the time it's over, you never want to see it again. It ruins the overall enjoyment.

This applies later on for sales when it's on DVD/Bluray. Kids who want to watch the movie can't exactly watch the movie after dinner before bed. Least not without multiple sessions.

As an avid long time anime fan, I love series when they're spread out because it helps the story and character development. However, American based movie studios have yet to really grasp making good movies, strong character development, and stories that keep you locked.

In the end...
If it's going to be in 2 parts, I likely will not go see it.
I don't have patience for that, and I wish the best of luck to parents who go see it with their kids. Not only will they be squirming to leave after the first 2 1/2 to 3 hours, they'll be twice as frustrated when they have to go see the second part.

Say, doesn't this mean a double dip on DVD/Bluray sales too?

Hollywood... Figures.

I immediately thought about the double revenue when I first spotted the story.

As much as I agree with the fact that this could simply be shameless double-dipping, fact is there's not a lot of "fluff" in the seventh novel.

Most every aspect is fairly crucial to the overall story and final resolution. Not so much the case with past books, where several subplots came and went. Everything comes together in book seven.

On a side not, Gabe, how can you not have read these? It's practically a sin considering you live in England!

It's even more surprising because I thought the movies were ok. I'll find someone with the collection and borrow them. Any spare book money I have goes on Warhammer fiction at the moment (or Terry Pratchett though I now think I have alll the discworld series).

I'm surprised it took this long to consider splitting the books as they've been getting awfully large for some time now. I'd certainly prefer two films over one long one. I find each Lord of the Rings pushes the acceptable viewing length for me and wouldn't want to see many films going to that length, especially if the target audience includes youngsters.
