Default NHS prescription charges change?

This is a UK-centric thread but I'd love to hear comments from other nations.

There are calls for the prescription costs to be dropped from NHS medication. Currently, anyone earning more than around £12,000 per year will have to pay out the £6.85 charge for each medication regardless of how little is prescribed.

I have always been against this charge and I think it would be fairer if either everyone got it free, or everyone pays a much smaller amount.

As expected, the government is against this change but I for one hope to see it go through. I'll be checking the 10 downing street petition website for something I can sign.

Default

In Wales we have free prescriptions and it seems to work ok here. In fact alot of people who lived in borderline towns/cities (such as Chester) used to come to GPs in Wales to get them until they changed it so you had to be living here. Like I said, works good here but it's not something I can comment on as such because I don't know what its like to have to pay for them lol.
