Bike broke this morning. Definitely going in favour of a car. Very foul mood at the moment.

Rosie is right about the car. £500 buys a scrappy rust bucket which attracts £600+ insurance premiums. Sucks. That is on a 1.2 Corsa 14 years old!

If I go for anything smaller I'll have to peddle start it.

have you thought about going to a car auction? we've brought a couple of cars from there, and as long as youre not trying to buy something small and trendy, you can get some amazing deals!!

just remember to take someone with you who either knows about cars or can talk you out of something stupid.

Yeh, I got my 1st car from an auction back in 2002.
It was an M Reg Escort (£600) and lasted me alot of miles!

Alot of my friends are put off by auctions for 1st cars but like Dillon said if you go with someone who knows alot about cars you can find a right bargain!

It's wierd but the insurance on a 1 litre VW Polo is only £100 cheaper than on a Vauxhall Astra 1.8i .

Information Request.


I'm looking at a 1996 Honda Civic coupe with 94,000 miles on the clock. Should I stay well clear or will the engine still be ok?

I don't want to buy something which will die in 10,000 miles.

I also know that I do need to go and see it properly but just because it sounds ok when I start it up, doesn't mean that the engine will be good for too many more miles.

No reason to think it cant go for much longer, Gabe, my Toyota truck that i bought brand new in 90 has 244,000 on it and it only gets better with time. Honda and Toyota are the top import cars in the u.s. and i expect everywhere pretty much, dont think you can go wrong.
