Default HDTV's

So I've been looking to try and score one on Black Friday - God help us all! - but when looking at all the BF ads posted so far, I just realized I really don't know what I'm doing when shopping for an HDTV.

A lot of the better deals have been with off-brand television sets - ie, Olevia, Element, Dynex, Westinghouse, etc. - and ideally, I'm looking for something at least 32 '' and within $500 - $700, which a lot of those ads had been running lately. I guess my question here is, is there anything in particular I should look out for when buying them (either off brand or not)? Or should I go for more established brands?

I know about the native resolutions and the HDMI ports, but other than that, I'm not sure what really separates the different branded televisions from each other - here's hoping someone's a bit of a HDTV expert here! lol

But yea, any extra info you guys could provide me would be great.

So DS, you gonna buy a ps3 first or the tv? Just curious, i know you didnt sound like you had much money for a ps3 even yet... tv will cost loads more than a ps3 if its worthwhile. These guys know their tv's but by the time you are able to afford it it will all have changed...

I would stay away from off-brand TVs, you'll probably win in the long-run with a brand. I think Samsung LCDs are well priced brand name screens. For about $700 you can pick up a 32' with 720p (not 1080)

Check these out:

If you go with off-brand, Westinghouse is probably the only one I'd somewhat trust.

I know thats a UK site but they have some good reviews on ALOT of HDTV's.
It helped me decide which one to get.

I paid a grand for my 32" Samsung 1080p, which is a pretty good deal for my money.

I picked it up at Best Buy.
