You may remember me saying I was going to be in London England and Llangollen (?) Wales (and Dublin, Kilarney Ireland) between the 15th and 23rd this month. What I need from you people is some information if you could.
What's the weather/tempurature generally like this time of year? How much should I expect to pay for a normal size bottle of soda, to put some things in perspective? How much is beer? What kind over there would you suggest? If we have some free days around the areas, is there anything you suggest I absolutely must do? Are there any places around that I can get some free or cheap wifi? I can't think of anything else but if you have any tips and tricks for me do share. |

You're off to Llangollen? Sweet! That's about a 20 minute (if that) drive from Wrexham, where I live. If you're after a 2 Litre bottle of pop it's gunna cost you about £1.50, but you might be able to get some cheaper. Dunno where you can find wifi in Llan (don't go there very often, although my auntie does live there) but Im sure there might be some place with it. The weather will be pretty bitter, either just frosty and cold or wet and cold. Make sure you have a decent coat with you. The beer.... really not sure to be honest as I dont drink beer (more of a spirits person) but I'll get back to you on that some time later, same for places to go as Im really tired and can't think at the moment.
Hope that gives you a hand, anything else you need to know about Llangollen and the surrounding areas just ask it's a really nice place to go to and very Welsh (in a good way), so you should enjoy it.

Hawkster should be able to give you more info about London but I'd say you are looking at 12 degrees high and 7 degrees at night. 2 litre bottle of Coke would be about £2, maybe a little more.
Further up north you can look at £2:50 or £3 for a pint of carlsberg or carling so I'd guess at £3-£3.50 in London. Again, Hawkster is your guy for details. You have to bear in mind that most of the prices will be inflated in London and the exchange rate at the moment will really hurt. It's the first time I can ever recall that the Canadian dollar has a lower rate than the USD. Try this link for cheap stuff to do: http://uk.ask.com/web?qsrc=178&o=0&l=dir&dm=all&q=free%20things%20to %20do%20in%20london

Well I work in the City and you will normally pay £3 for a pint of lager but some places you can expect to pay up to £6.........Especially if you go to clubs and flash bars. Things you should see whilst in London I would say would have to be the Tower of London, Parliament and of course Buck House. The london eye is a good way of getting a great view of the city but it depends on the weather.
It is starting to get a bit colder but nothing to bad as yet. I would imagine it will be around the 10-12 degree mark during the day and possibly down to 0 overnight. Also bring clothing that will keep you dry as no doubt it will rain at some point ![]() if you find a Starbucks in London they sometimes have free wifi. Also in some McDonalds.... Otherwise there are plenty of internet cafes around the place that will charge you for airtime, although I do not know how much... Hope this helps a bit |

where abouts do you work Hawkster? i live half an hour from London... lol, not that im going to stalk you, just interested.
anyway, agree with Hawkster, its a mine field as regards to beer prices.. but can i recommend some beer? personally i like white beer (or Witbier as its properly said) like Hoegaarden or Paulaner etc etc... really nice beer. another good beer is the 'proper Bud' as in the Original Budweiser brewed in the Czec Republic. its called Budvaar and is bloody nice! i use to drink Stella, but have changed me ways in later life. But I would say Becks for me is the better of the normal bottled Larger here, and can get it in most pubs and bars. but BEWARE!! if you ask for "Beer".. you may not get your Bud or your Busch, you may well get 'Bishops toenail' instead ![]()

lol at automatically giving you a local beer rather than an international one.
My local from work charges £2.20 for Carling and that is in a student area where you'd expect it to be cheaper.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to do a sampling of beer if I can afford to, so I'll try to remember what you suggest while I'm there. If not I'll probably have my macbook with me to refer to.
I noticed Goten calls it 'pop' which excites me, being from Pennsylvania, where we call it pop while everyone in this area calls it soda. I've had to call it soda for the last 4 years because no one knows what I'm talking about when I say pop. What do most call it over there, or is it kind of regionally different like it is here? Llangollen keeps making me think of the movie/book Langoliers. Has anyone been to the Absolut Ice bar in London? My girlfriend really wants to go and we were thinking of going into the one in Sydney AUS, but didnt get the chance. It also seems quite expensive for entry for me as I'm not the club type, but what do you think of it? |
