It's been a while (over two years, apparently), but I stopped by the main site and figured I'd pop in and say hello. Hopefully somebody here still remembers the forum's first (and only?) official Complainer of the Year.
If not, that's fine too. I'll slink away again and cry myself to sleep for a few nights...

Long time no see. What's been keeping you away? Do I need to track you down and nail you to your keyboard like I did with Dillon? ![]()

Well there have been a few house moves, some time without internet, and a lot of time addicted to World of Warcraft. I've been clean since February though, taking each day one at a time, repeatedly telling myself I don't need to spend several hours a day killing the same things over and over for minor progress. My diet now contains much more variety, including things such as 'singleplayer', 'fun', 'tangible progress', 'storylines' and 'endings', which took some time to readjust to.

I'd drink to that, if I drank alcohol. It's good to see you're still about Svosen; the forum seems a little diminished compared to how it was before I fell into the downward spiral of grinding, farming and the acquisition of 'phat lewt', but it still appears to have a fair few of the good people I remember.

Hey Benny,
How goes it? I sold my WoW account about six weeks ago, and although i miss some of it i follow the forums and dont think im missing much if anything. Good chance to discover new avenues, and although i have a lot of undiscovered ps2 games, havent really been messing with them. Here's to a full recovery! ![]() |

You sold your account? I've heard that online property has been being sold for real money, but I guess it's still a shocking concept to me. Weird.
How much did you get?

Considering how much time and effort put in, not much, but i got $146 by selling to the only site currently online that seemed to be buying at the time. Im watching people drop out of the game at a pretty fast rate, and clearly the value of accounts is down. Trying to sell it privately may have been possible, but i chose to simply get rid of it. Here is a link to their site:
http://www.accounts.net/buyaccount/wow/30 I wanted to get out so basically whatever i could get for it was fine... Last edited by farfus : 10-08-2007 at 07:16 PM. Reason: change |

For whatever reason I just suddenly lost interest in the game. I was in Nagrand killing ogres as a follow-up quest to one that had me killing ogres, while moving slowly towards another group of ogres I had to kill for an additional quest, in the hope that I would level up so I could go to the next ogre-dominated area to kill those, when it struck me that this wasn't that fun. Not the ogre-saturation in particular, but the fact that almost every enemy may as well have been a generic palette-swap, considering the lack of effort and variety it took to kill them. I had to kill and kill and kill again and again to level, so I could go to dungeons to kill and kill and kill again and again so I could get decent gear to go to raids to kill and kill and kill again and again to get better gear to go to higher level raids so I could kill and kill and kill again and again until the next expansion raised the level cap so I could kill and kill and kill again and again to level...
It was suddenly no longer pressing any of my buttons for what I enjoy from gaming - things like fun, making an impact in the game world, following a good story and working towards an ending. Plus I'd barely played any other games while being active in WoW, because time spent playing other games felt like time I could spend farming gold/items/reputation. It suddenly felt like one huge stall tactic to keep me paying, so I stopped. The account is still there if I miss it or the people I played with, but I haven't been tempted so far.

Yeah the game has deteriorated noticeably for many, i see new farewell posts all the time. It was pretty much farm central for me, and my guild was near breaking up, and instead of finding another one to play a game i didnt enjoy i did the ultimate break up. Havent missed it either, guess having a social life really does make a difference........
