Default Dog Days, Apparently

Man, I haven't been on here in weeks, and it only took me about 10 minutes to get all caught up. Looks like the Brits finally took over - although by attrition rather than mutiny. And now they're so comfortable one of them just takes a week off without fear of rebellion. *sigh*

Been a busy summer for us. Lot's of camping, which has been good. Otherwise, the wife's had the kids going to lots of activities and such. Time's marching on ever faster. I haven't been on for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is my search for a new job. Haven't had any luck finding something new, but I'm not exactly crunched for time (haven't been fired or anything; just getting tired of the job).

I ran in a triathlon in early August. That was interesting. Actually, now that I think of it, that's one of the big reasons I haven't been around. Training for that thing sucked up a LOT of my time for the two months before the event. We swam 500 yards, biked 12.1 miles, and ran 3.5 miles. Never would have thought I could do it before I started training. The training was brutal, but the event itself wasn't bad at all. Glad to have done it; don't plan on doing it again.

How have you all been doing? Other than Gabe, anyone vacationing?

'Twas inevitable I'm afraid, those Brits are relentless.

I work a ton in the summers, and when I'm not working I'm generally out doing other stuff, so I haven't been around for awhile. School just started last Wednesday though, and since I don't work during the school year, I'll probably have more time to kill during the week.

Congrats on the triathalon, that's really impressive. There's no way I could ever do one of those.

I've been working a lot, and then I began my freshman year at UConn, so I haven't had much time to say hello.

Dillon, your friend is psycho! The triathlon I did is called a "sprint" by people in the tri circle. Sounds like your buddy did the Olympic-length tris. Even more nuts than that are the "Ironman" tris. Those guys swim about 2.5 miles, bike about 100 miles, then run the marathon (26.2 miles). They have 17 hours to complete it, I understand 0_o

My friend who got me into the baby tri thing met a 65-year-old man who had just completed an Ironman. Insane!

Truthfully, one of the main reasons I decided to start running this year was to get in shape to play some city-league basketball this fall. I haven't played competitively in over 13 years. I'm really looking forward to re-learning how to dribble

One of my biggest concerns going into the tri-training was that I would burn myself out. Now that it's all done, I'm starting to think that's exactly what's happened. Since the event, I've been pretty hard pressed to get out and exercise twice per week. I haven't totally slipped, but I'm nowhere near as fit as I was even two weeks ago. Amazing how quickly you can lose what takes so long to get

Oh yeah - I meant to ask you, Cowboy: you gotta be getting almost done with school by now, aren't you? This your last year? Going for a graduate degree?

Nice to see you around again. The tri sounds far to much like hardwork for me. I'd just waste away if I tried that. Glad to hear things are going ok with life.

I spotted the basketball thread You really are back aren't you

Glad to hear you got through the triathlon ok Svo. Congrats on the dedication to go through all the training.

The only reason we have taken over is probably because; a) we don't normally get much of a summer and most importantly b) most of us post from work.
