I watched the movie on Thursday and I thought it was pretty good. For once in a live-action movie in recent times the CGI was impressive. Story was good too but overall I found some of the characters (particularly LaBeouf's) and dialog annoying. The product placement was way too blatant too, between iPod, HP, Xbox, GM (many of the vehicles including all but Optimus of the autobots were GMs), and the Army/Airforce.

As my roommate put it in his mini-review he gave me:

"I want to see robots being really evil and destroying stuff like the first 5 minutes of the movie and less Optimus Prime saying how much humans are awesome creatures followed by shots of army men holding up their babies in the sunset.

LeBeouf’s character is the only one who actually fits his geekiness although it goes alittle too far when he’s running around his house trying to find something and the robots are hiding out in his backyard for some reason. There’s just too many other characters who try to fill the comedic role, bouncing around to get screen time.

Despite all that the movie’s worth a view, the giant robot’s fighting is something to awe for. Just try to ignore all the army/navy/ and “we can’t do this without the airforce” propaganda."

By no means does it make the movie bad, even with the annoyances here and there, I found it worth my time (being a 2hr+ movie, it didn't seem too long like some movies feel at that point.

Also, Megan Fox is too hot to be a 17 year old in the movie, probably because she's 21. (So is LaBeouf but he at least can pull it off.) Her part in the movie, I feel, was probably the worst because of her impact of the entire thing, but at least she's capable of being eye candy.

Saw it last night, i agree with you, Norrec, good observations. Wasnt the best, but the CGI did rock, and no doubt they are already working on the sequel...

Guys, mark your spoilers. Seriously, I know there's an expiration date on spoilers, but this movie has been out less than a week, so even minor spoilers might piss some folks off.

Thanks.

That said, I don't get why people had a problem with LaBeouf, I think he did a great job. I also didn't get this 'we can't do this without the armed forces' "propoganda" either. More accurately, I would say, is that you need some sort of human component in this movie and especially the battle sequences simply to help keep the audience connected in a personal way, otherwise it's just robots fighting and unless you're a big Transformers fan it's going to be hard to get emotional about the Autobots. When you see:

***SPOILER***

the Marines fighting alongisde Optimus and 'lazing' Megatron so F-22s can drop smart bombs on his ass

***END SPOILER***

It's a lot easier to cheer on the good guy robots, ya know?

As for the product placement overall, yeah it was blatant. Panasonic, Mountain Dew, HP, GM, MS, iPod, and probably half a dozen more I can't recall, but who gives a shit about product placement?

There are going to be spoilers here:

I thought the movie was overall good but some of the sensitive parts of the script from optimus and the ott side of ironhide were a bit detracting from the whole experience. I also found the little recurring robot to be a little annoying with it's behaviour.

Overall this was a fun no brain movie which is what I was looking for and I was surprised when it got into the last few scenes as it didn't seem to be long enough, whatever the official run time happened to be. I wanted more!

I plan to see this at the cinema for full effect AND buy the SE DVD when it's released. Or maybe even Blu-Ray.

It was about 2 and a half hours by my clock, Gabe. Showing started at 8:50 for me, walked out of the theater at 11:21.

Sounds about right to me and it definitely didn't feel like it was dragging. I hope there is a 2nd movie.

Possible spoiler::

Wasn't Jazz originally a sportscar which slightly resembled a Lamborghini Countach? I'm struggling to remember the original animated movie.

I was thinking Jazz was a "Ghetto Blaster." If not, who was that? I had that toy, I recall...

I remember the when Ironhide got killed in the animated movie - that seemed like a pretty powerful scene back in the day, especially for a kid movie.
