you can play regular dvd's in 1080p with the newer regular dvd players. So why pay 500-1000 bucks for a player and 30 dollars for a blu ray or hd dvd when you can have same picture qaulity on a standard dvd? The only advantage I see is more space on a hd or blu. But movies do not require more space. Not even games at this time. I mean oblivion is less than 5gb and is a massive game.you can fit 9 gb on a standard dvd. Any one else feeling scammed/brain washed into buying useless tech?

WTF are you talking about? And from where in the world are you getting this so called information that regular DVD's run @ 1080p? Just because your TV supports it does not mean that a DVD will support it. That's like saying you can use mac software on windows, hardware and software must comply to work at full capacity.

You can compress a 1080p movie on a regular dvd. I'm sure there's some codec that manage to have it look decent too.
But you can't play that on a regular dvd player. And you can't have the same sound options that you would expect from a dvd.

This dvd player plays regular dvd's at 720p and 1080i That being posted, even if you get hd tv you the human eye cannot see the difference at normal viewing distences. People who say they can see a difference are only seeing what that big price tag is telling them to see. Its proven by science that you cannot tell the difference. http://www.vizcom.com.au/news/160/10...f-human-vision Last edited by jas1n : 06-19-2007 at 09:18 PM. |

Also i never argued with you with the fact that the human eye can't tell the difference. Also learn to paraphrase or quote, don't make up statements. No where in the article did it compare a HDTV to a Non-HDTV. They simple state that a 720p HDTV and a 1080p HDTV to the human eye will look the same BASED ON RESOLUTION SIZE ALONE. BOTH are HD qualities! Therefore, you would see a difference from a Non-HDTV (480p) and an HDTV (720p) Also if you knew anything about Optics or Physics 101 you would understand that just taking into account resolution size is not the factor in better picture quality as stated in the article you posted. Therefore people are not just seeing the "big price tag" but are actually seeing a difference in picture quality when going from a 480p to a 720p. As the article stated that the human eye would not be able to tell the difference in resolution passed 720p, which again i repeat is HDTV. Quote:
Again I'll repeat myself Software must be HD compatible for it to run on true HD. Quote:
EDIT: Oh, since we are "scammed" or "brainwashed" into buying useless tech, how about everyone just stop buying anything considered useless by jas1n, which is probably a hell lot of new technology, and how about the human race just stop advancing. Let's stop making any sort of technology, let's just keep it safe and use all of the old technology; because i really loved the quality of my Compact Cassette. Hmmmm....now let me throw out all of my mp3's and CD's, my Compact Cassette's should do well! (And if you didn't get it i was being sarcastic)jas1n, if you can't afford don't envy those that can. You are clearly bitching about technology because of its price. Had Blu-Ray or HD-DVD players been the same price as DVD Players you would say a word.

Compression and upscaling are different, he is referring to upscaling. At least, you (sunburn), tried to answer or hell maybe you have answered my question on how DVD's can run on TRUE HDTV, but this guys jas1n just refers to hardware that can upscale.

I can afford hd tv and I could prove that with pay stubs.
I cant see any difference in high def and regular tv.Is'nt that the whole point? Getting what you pay for? If you cant tell the difference why pay extra? are you mad cuase you wasted your money on a hd player or something? And no there is nothing wrong with my eyes either.. I have 18/20 vision. Stop advancing in tech? As far as I am aware the new shit that these componies come out with is garbage. They are designed to fail. My vcr is 15 years old still works. I bought a dvd player for 140 bucks lasted one year. My 2001 saturn had to have the transmission replaced after 65,000 miles. From what I can see we are downgrading in quality. I am not against advansment in tech. As long as there is a need for it. I have a gps unit I use for work its great tech. But how the hell is paying 5-10 times more for something that is not any better a advancment in technology? I think something lie 20-30% of people with HD tv's are not getting hd and not even aware of it. Proving you cant tell the difference. http://www.consumerist.com/consumer/...dtv-240569.php "And about one half of those viewers - about six million - don't even realize they're not watching HDTV. " Those 6 million people are tools. That confirms part of my first post. "People who say they can see a difference are only seeing what that big price tag is telling them to see." |

You're a moron. How about the other 3/4's or the other half? What they don't count. Not everyone understand that you have to watch HD with HD Channels or with HD equipment and not just buy a tv and it shows HD. Again your article stated that there is a difference in 480p and 720p based on HUMAN EYE. Again 480p is the NON-HDTV and 720p is HDTV.
These articles don't prove anything. Just like all things, there are unknowns and side effects. Not everyone is allergic to the same thing, some drugs affect people differently then other, same goes with technology, not everyone understands that loading up a google.com with a 3000kbps connection is different from a 12000kbps connection even though it seems the same, and not everyone have 20/20 or 20/15 vision. Every person is different. For example i can tell when a computer has a virus WITHOUT an Anti-Virus, as a qualified and experienced Medical Doctor can tell what's wrong with the patient when the patient's symptoms can mean a number of things. And just to give you another slap in the face, i actually don't own an HDTV because i actually CANNOT afford the HDTV Plasmas or LCDs. And i do want one because i've seen the difference in quality from my 26inch SONY VVEGA TV and the 36 or 42inch LCD HDTV. Even you article states that the reason quality is so great on HDTV's is not only because of resolution but also actual image and light production from the TV. As well it states a larger HDTV actually can show a difference in quality then a Non-HDTV at the same size. Quote:
Also you're an idiot for saying "new shit that these companies (spelling) come out with are garbage." The reason for it breaking down is not the product, it is the manufacturing/assembling process. Everything today is done in China, therefore it is cheap labor, therefore products are built with a lot less in mind, therefore products are cheaper. I have a Sony VCR and TV which is still alive and has been for about 17 years now and the reason for it is that it was made in JAPAN, where labor is not cheap, and when converted to today's standards this product would be expensive.

LMAO at people who think regular DVDs support 1080. That might just be the most painfully stupid thing ever uttered on these forums.
