Geez what an IDIOT!:

Sprays idiot B-Gone!

Some info:
A regular DVd holds four gigs and a regular HD blu-ray disc holds 25 gigs.

Thats five times more detail and I live in Mexico where when folks come into my store and see the Olevia 42 inch with the PLAYSTATION THREE! running an HD blu-ray movie its:

Wow! thats clear and "why does it look so good?", "what buttons did you press to make it look like that?", "can you please come to my house and adjust my tv to look like yours?", etc.

Then I change the source input on the Olevia from HDMI to composite in to let the folks see the PS2 running a regular 480p dvd movie and its:
"that dont look so good", "why does it look bad?", etc.

The ONLY way a REGULAR DVD DISC! can hold a HD movie:

X264 codec or H264 or Advanced Video Codec where the signal in Mpeg-2 at 25 or more Gigabytes is CONVERTED to MPEG-4 or HDAVC H264 format to get to four gigs of movie size.

The only way to play is with an AVCHD codec compatible player such as the :
Playstation Three.

As far as an old and REGULAR dvd player doing AVCHD decoding on an AVCHD dvd disc:
No.
NO.
NO!
NO WAY!
ITS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

while its true dvd's can be upconverted to 1080p, you can't add detail that isn't there. so its not going to look OR sound nearly as good as a blu-ray movie. i've got pirates of the carribean on blu-ray and dvd. i popped em both in to see how big of a difference there is between the 2. and let me tell you, the difference is insane. the dvd looks like an old vhs compared to the blu-ray copy.

Or just try watching an AVCHD movie from the PS3 hard drive and then change the source signal on that HDTV from HDMI to just Tuner and it looks bad! yuck! plain 480 broadcasts just look bad when compared to HD 1080.

I still don't have a HDTV, digital cable (no digital there) I'm noticing it's getting worse. The HD box HD/PVR box is still a good amount of cash ($748 purchase.....or a $22 a month for the rest of your life? lol) The stand alone is $448 but that's still a bunch of cash...

I run s-vid out of my digital cable box. It doesn't have component out. The picture still looks ok but they need to update that cable box. That price of the HD/PVR is insane and hasn't gone down at all since it was released 3 years ago or so. The cable provider I'm with has been good with adding a ton of HD channels.

HDTV for me first, then a PS3. It really does look like I'm going Blu-Ray for my choice of the new format. I'll never buy an upscale dvd player at all.

I got the HD/PVR from Rogers (I'm assuming that you're with Shaw, so it's basically the same thing) - half price. That was totally worth it (even though I would rather have Tivo).
