A little left of center

I just got back from a pretty killer trip to New Zealand and Australia with some friends and the ladyfriend the other day, and while in Rotorua NZ at the Whakarewarewa thermal village I had a maori artist/tattooist/musician to design a tattoo for myself (my girlfriend got one too and two other friends just got designs). We left him to work on the designs which were based on information about our families, and walked back at 8pm, a 30 minute walk.
Starting off with a prayer, and some music he played for us on his drum and flutes, he freehand drew the design on my arm in sharpie then went at it, taking two hours. Robyn went next for a 1 hour session. Afterwards he offered us a ride back to town and called a taxi, played us some more music on his various flutes and told us all about their meanings, and rode with us back to town where our hotel was. We skipped a maori concert presented in our hotel to do this and I feel it was a much more personal and meaningful event. Anyways here is the tattoo on my left forearm, I'll post Robyn's later if anyone wants to see it. ![]() Anyone else have new tattoos recently? Last topic about it I remember is Matts elbows a while back |

Well here are a few more pics before, during, and after the tattoo adventure:
First, Jason started off by having Robyn hold up the design he made me, and freehand redrew it on my arm, ending with this: ![]() During the process: ![]() ![]() ![]() This part sucked cause the only way he could get to the back of my arm was to lay very uncomfortably with my arm behind my back like this until he could move on: ![]() ![]() And in the end, this was Robyn's tattoo: ![]() It's funny how many comments you get from people after a new tattoo. I've gotten a ton of them when it was fresh, saying it looked awesome or asking all sorts of things about it, and since it's pretty much healed now I still get compliments. |

Currently, she has a flower on the small of her back, a hummingbird on her shoulder blade (1st tat), 2 kanji's on her neck (family and friend), our boy's birthday on her right shoulder, and a thick outline of a star on each shoulder.
Her next piece is going to be a big one. She wants an oriental styled shoulder piece with a koi, a cherry blossom tree and black water incorporated with the current star tat. We drew up some mock designs and I think it will be really nice whenever we get the money to get it.
