![]() I'm not sure who many Mixed Martial arts fans there are on the forums, but this topic will showcase the UFC events/TV and the PRIDE Fighting Championship from Japan. I prefer Pride due to the tech aspect of it, but UFC has been really doing good with it's fights over the last year or so. Plus with UFC purchase of Pride in Japan and Dana White's promise to keep it seperate and the original way it looked, it's still going to kick some ass. I was a big boxing fan back in the late 90's and up until 2002 or so, then the sport died for me.....but I've been watching UFC/Pride since then and the ass kicking is insane. ![]() ![]() Re-Cap of fight: LAS VEGAS, May 26 – Chuck Liddell’s right hand had extracted revenge for him on many occasions, leading him on a reign of terror at 205 pounds that saw him win seven fights in a row, all by KO or TKO. But tonight, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the streak came to an end at the hands of the last man to beat him, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, who earned the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with a stunning first round TKO. And it all started with a right hand to the jaw. “That’s how I saw it in my head,” said Jackson, who stopped Liddell in the second round of their PRIDE bout in Japan on November 9, 2003. “I made a mistake and got caught,” said the 37-year old Liddell. The tension was thick early on as camera flashes were seen throughout the arena. The action didn’t match the atmosphere in the opening minute though, bringing a look of disdain and a wave in from Jackson to engage. Liddell obliged, but after Jackson absorbed a left hook from ‘The Iceman’, he came back immediately with a right hook that dropped Liddell to the canvas hard. ‘Rampage’ immediately pounced on the soon to be ex-champion, and after four unanswered blows, referee John McCarthy halted the bout at the 1:53 mark, and a new king was crowned at 205 pounds. With the win, Jackson improves to 27-6. Liddell falls to 20-4. ![]() If your in to it, tonights UFC 71 was insane. Finally, Rampage Jackson got the light heavyweight title and it was from a re-match with Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. Now, if you taped this live event, the title topic will be spoilers of course. Here's a video link to some re-caps of that fight. Chuck never had a chance and he can say that he was ok but his body went limp after that right hook to the chin. Even from that pic above, he's out of it. http://www.cbs2.com/video/?id=40406@kcbs.dayport.com If you have only been following UFC and not Pride, you might not know the history and how much of a bad ass Ramage is lol. This guy can hit hard and take names, and spills out trash and regular talk with mic skills like the Rock. Ramage got screwed in Pride for any type of title and now after tonights fight, he's a on a Ramage (Pun intended)If your looking for some back history on Rampage, here's a vid from his Pride days (Note the different ring style) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcyQrCB_yt0 It's going to be an interesting year for UFC and Pride (Now if I could get my hands on some UFC HD on Xbox Live marketplace it would own, damn region thingy!)Last edited by cAtDaFeLiX : 05-27-2007 at 02:51 AM. |

I missed the fight, I really don't have the money at the moment, with the move and all, but I have been trying to keep up with The Ultimate Fighter 5, and this week's episode was just insanity. I can't believe those idiots thought they would not get kicked out for brawling in the house.
I was also amazed when Gabe failed to make weight; what a freaking pansy ass. Overall I think this season has been the most interesting ever, if not the best fights ever. Bonnar/Griffin from season one will be hard to top, if ever. |

Man, Dana White's reaction was classic! He doesn't put up with anything and that brawl sent him over the edge. I should mention that the other fights on that UFC 71 card were amazing. The Houston Alexander Vs. Keith Jardine fight was omfg lol. Houston (His first fight in the UFC) nailed Jardine with 2 freaking uppercuts and straight left/right shots to the head.
I'm going to try to search this PPV on torrents starting tomorrow and try to get it up on my hosting site. Each match was amazing. (I went to a buds to watch it and he doesn't have a PVR or DVDR )Last edited by cAtDaFeLiX : 05-27-2007 at 03:03 AM. |

Also, I've never liked Jardine, and I don't know why but I'm surprised that Liddell lost so quickly. While I figured Jackson had every chance of beating Liddell, I really didn't expect someone as dominant as Chuck to fall so quickly. Apparently Jackson just has his number. |

Oh, and was anyone else (I know Cowboy is also a fan) surprised that Tito completely backed off from fighting Dana? I really don't get that, since I really doubt Dana had even a snowball's chance in hell of beating a fighter like Ortiz, but Tito made himself look like a punk backing out last minute like that.
I'm still pissed that I watched that special for two hours only for it to end with Tito saying "I'm going to let you off the hook". I can understand why Dana wanted that special broadcast, he wanted everyone to know he was man enough to take Tito on, but still, what a fracking waste of time! |

I wasn't surprised by that at all. It was really a no win situation for Tito. If he won, big deal, he beat up the old owner of the promotion. If he lost, then he got beat by the old owner of a promotion. I think he expected it to be a smaller, private deal between the two and when it turned into something bigger he got scared off. Dana was a pretty decent amature boxer (and remember this deal was a boxing match, not a MMA fight. Tito's standup isn't the greatest) and when he trained Tito back in the day he used to whoop his ass all the time in standup. I knew before I watched the special that the fight wasn't happening, so I didn't feel cheated, and found the special itself to be kinda fascinating from that perspective.
Loving TUF5 so far. By far the most entertaining season ever, and I loved that gigantic brawl. The guys in the house this year are ****ing INSANE, and it's a welcome change from the boredom that was last season. I wouldn't want to live there with them, but damned if I don't love watching it. As for last nights PPV, top to bottom that might have been the best UFC show I've ever seen. Every single fight was awesome. I'm not surprised at all by the Rampage win, I actually predicted it a while back (I think when I was talking to Ryan, but maybe not). I think his style of fighting is just poorly suited for Chuck, and I don't think Chuck was at his best. He was looking pretty worn out from all the interviews and press he's been getting this week (It's crazy as hell to see UFC as one of the top stories on ESPN, good for them). I like Chuck, but I LOVE Rampage so I was pretty pumped to see him win. Dude is hilarious, in addition to being a great fighter. I hope he becomes a huge star for them. Big upset of the night was Jardine getting knocked out by Alexander, who I'd honest to god never heard of. Pretty awesome moment, but definitely a surprise. I don't really love Jardine, but he's a really good fighter. I think he'd have probably been in line for a title shot at some point in the near future had he and Chuck not both lost. I'm really pumped for the PRIDE/UFC super-show they seem to be setting up with Henderson coming out at the end of the show. That'll be a fun one if it actually happens.

Alexander owned Jardine at the end of that fight. Those 2 uppercuts landed perfect. That one shot Jardine gave him seemed to piss him off huge.
For Tito, I watched it too Ryan. Tito was scared of Dana and Dana trained like a mad man that entire time. Tito is a little baby and no wonder the next UFC 72 he's not even listed on the main poster as fighting. I'm glad Chuck owned him and set him in his place. |

He was definitely a wuss in the Dana thing, but in general I think he's just really good at playing the bad guy role in an effort to sell fights. There's no denying the success he's had in that area, his fights have done huge PPV numbers. People will obviously pay to watch the guy in hopes that he gets his ass kicked (which, to his credit as a fighter, doesn't happen very often). His being left out of the poster or whatever is less a business decision and more Dana being pissy about him ducking their stupid little boxing match.

He did that a long time ago and Dana never really seemed to care (at least not enough to stop pushing him as one of the top guys in the company), so I'm pretty sure that didn't play much of a role in it.
