Default We need more moderation

The last few months or so, we've had a few newer members (and everyone knows exactly who I'm talking about) who, in my opinion, have seriously hurt the forum. They post tons of worthless shit, they blatantly break rules, and just generally ruin things for everyone. I mean, I realize that things can get slow around here and getting new members is good thing, but shouldn't we draw the line somewhere? What good are new members if they're DETRACTING from the posting experience? And I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. Even the moderators seem to agree with me, if their responses are any indication (and I KNOW there are certain ones that do). But, to me at least, it seems like they aren't allowed to do anything about it for whatever reason. At worst someone gets banned for a couple days, then they're right back posting useless shit and breaking rules again. What good is that? Why even have moderators if they're going to be handicapped like that? We've got some great ones here, who I think know a lot about what it takes to keep this place running well. So let them do their jobs, please.

If this is out of line and gets locked, then whatever, fine, but I can't stand some of the stuff that's gone around here lately, and thought I should at least make my opinion heard.

Ok Cowboy, I know you don't like me, but I will try to tone it down, ok?

I value your feedback and your comment is noted. We are watching those members very carefully and will use a permanent ban only as last resort if other methods are not helping.

Phew thanks, now I can sleep without fear of the internets getting me

While I think it's nice to get more variety among members, being an older brother, I am easily annoyed by, well, annoying people. I find the fact that multiple warnings have gone without notice by uh, some of the aggresors, one in particular, you have to give credit where it's due, certain people have been improving.

I don't think they are neccessarily "hurting" the forum, maybe hindering a little, but while improvements can be made, we're obviously doing something right to attract new members.

I'd rather see bans (relatively long term or permanent) for chronic/serious offenders. That way everyone can simply move on; instead, we end up with seemingly endless threads about how so and so sucks/is dumb/etc.

That's not good for anyone.

I also agree. Though I don't like to see people banned it is a reasonable punishment for regular offenders. The warnings route should always be tried first as this can make members behaviour improve and turn them into productive forumites. psplayer is a prime example. A couple of warnings should be all it takes before persistent offenders are receiving bans.

I don't like tyranical mods as I feel some places have but in all honesty, I think the mods here are too restricted.

Maybe there could be a more predefined structure?

3 warnings followed by a 3 day ban, 2 week ban, perma ban?
I admit I am in no position to dictate, I just wanted to put forward a possibility. This would give someone 5 chances to change their attitudes before being dismissed.

I would not mind a structure like this. We can now give out infractions, and set a time limit for them. In all reality, no one who deserves posting on these boards should ever reach 3 simultaneous warning. That would be my cue for a ban (coupled with a justification via PM, of course). I'd do 3 days, to a week, to two weeks, to a month, and then Perm it. Of course, that structure can be vetoed for exceptional cases.

agree with everyone here...

basically you must have steps so people can redeem themselves, and if not then its the chop.

but I also think as you guys here do, that if someone is WAY out of line, then they should just be banned.. prema ban

Prema banned? Is that banning someone before they do something wrong?
