Basically Top Gear took their contempt for America, which they've demonstrated on a number of occasions, to an amazing new low by intentionally antagonizing southern people into poor behavior, mocking ridiculously overblown and largely untrue stereotypes and then laughing about it.

I wonder how funny Gabe, Dillon, Rosie, Darth, et. al. would feel if an American TV crew went over to London, drove up to a soccer match just letting out and antagonized a bunch of chavs and wallies into attacking them, then characterized all Brits that way.

Yeah, I doubt they'd be laughing.

I've put up with Top Gear's Euro-centric bullshit for years now because other than it, it's a great show, but I'm really getting tired of it, especially in light of Clarkson's editorial on the filming where he flat out lies about and insults Americans.

but honestly, im talking the pee out of me, im playing up to the Chav of our land and just taking the good honest piss out of myself.

every Brit here knows it too.. we dont eat squirrels, or sing to the queen before we go to sleep at night. its just what the idiots of our country do/ use to do/ still do...

and if there was a program made by Americans that exposed the chavs of our fair land, I would laugh as loudly as you.. but the fact is that there isnt, but.. luckily enough, we take the piss out of them our selves, lol.. and Top Gear does that very well too.

I know some people are VERY country proud, and to a certain extenet I am, but not to the point where we cant see our faults.

If the slogans were saying " You are all a bunch of redneck, inbred, no teeth retards" Then I could understand the animosity.

If you are going to say things like " Are y'all buncha gays tryin' t'get yerselves beat up?" then you are downright asking to be laughed at. They had no slogans that were directly aimed at offending the individuals and those sorts of reactions wouldn't have happened any where else.

I know not all Americans are like that but it goes to show the massive overreactions and terrible predjudices of some people in Alabama.


As for euro-centric; The three presenters slam europe as much as the rest of the world. Have you heard them talking about France??

I remember when Clarkson had a talk show, where he had a world map on the wall.. and he ripped off wales, because he 'hates' them... lol, was very very funny.

they may say they hate certain people/countries or things.. but all three are very intelligent men, whome I feel that 'Hate' is a word that they play on.

dont forget, Clarkson owns a Ford GT.. he hates it, but he owns it because he does love it.... go figure!
I dont think he really hates America, just that its an easy target to fire upon at times. Like us with the chav cars.. you should hear him bang on!

In seriousness though, you talk about this Euro-centric stuff and characterising Americans, just imagine being Welsh. We're the little forgotten country stuck next to England, infact we're even thought to be just English by a lot of nations, and even some English people and TV shows. We've been on the butt of lots of jokes, and as much as I have no problem with English people at all (my dad and his side of the family are all Brummys), it annoys me when this happens. But we put up with it as a nation and even at times laugh at it.

There's only three types of British people who appear in American films: Posh Brit (stiff upper lip and all that), Cockney and Scottish. Where's the Yorkshire man? The Brummy? The Scouser? The Geordie? Hell even the South Welsh and North Welsh men? I'm sure they've been in one or two films, but you only have to take a show like the Simpson and see them constantly take the piss out of the Scottish (admittedly in a more joking way than Top Gear).

America constantly takes overblown British stereotypes and uses them in films. But do we really care that much? Not at all. Because we know how to laugh at ourselves and/or the stereotypes.
