Default HD Movies

It occurred to me that Hi-Def movies would have to fill the screen to actually be Hi-Def, if this is the case then that means no more 2:35:1 letter box which is the way I like to watch films, could someone please tell me Im wrong.

Well, aren't most high-def displays now already widescreen/letterboxed?

An aspect ratio is just that, an aspect ratio. The HDTV standard is 16:9, so there might still be some black bars for movies, because they are mostly shot at a wider aspect ratio. They might format it to fit to the screen, which is what they do on TV channels anyway...

The trouble with taking a widescreen movie and making it fit the screen is that your actually missing some of the picture and not viewing it as the director intended.

16:9 for movies is arse

It's a huge improvement over 4:3, and they don't have to stick with 16:9, they are free to keep the original aspect ratio if they want.
