Iowa got a back on track today. Yeah it was against I-AA Northern Iowa (a very good I-AA team but and I-AA team nontheless) but they played well and Drew Tate didn't show any ill-effects from the concussion last week. Hopefully it will help build confidence and get them ready for a big game next week against Ohio State.

Purdue has by far the easiest conference schedule in the Big Ten too, they miss out on Michigan and OSU and get Iowa at home (although I'm pretty confident the Hawks will win that game). Based on that alone they've got a decent chance to run the table, even though I don't think they're all that great a team.

Iowa took another big loss today, losing 31-6 to OSU. Ohio State is a good team but there really no reason the Hawks can't hang with them. With the Big Ten as strong as it is this looks like it has the makings of a long season. I'm not sure what their problem is either, other than the D-line (which definatly is a problem) they've pretty much brought back all the talent they had last year and upgraded at the running back posistion but somethings missing. Last year just about anytime they needed someone to step up and make a play, be it offense or defense, someone made it, this year that isn't happening. They don't have that fire they had last year. Maybe they just bought into their own hype.

Iowa won big today against Illinois (yeah yeah the Illini suck, shut up and let me enjoy the win). Offense looked very good, Tate had a solid game and they ran the ball well. Albert Young is a very good back, something they missed last year. D stills looks shakey at times, thank God for Hodge and Greenway, I'm gonna miss them next year. Hopefully that young D-line develops as the year goes on and they can get more pressure on the quarterback. The win today gives Iowa a 21 game home winning streak, the 3rd longest in the nation. Must be the pink visitor's lockerroom

No one else really seems to care about this thread, but whatever.
Pretty big day of games yesterday, especially in the Big Ten. Penn State showed that they're for real with a win over a really good Ohio State team. I didn't see most of the second half because I was uh...otherwise occupied but from what I hear it was a good game. I'm looking for Penn State to be in the Top Ten when the polls come out, which is crazy considering how bad they've been the last few years. Wisconsin, who up until then had been undefeated, lost to Northwestern in a crazy game. And Minnesota beat Michigan; looks like the Wolverines may have been overrated coming into this year. In the rest of the country USC, VTech, Texas, FSU, and Georgia all stayed undefeated and looked good so they should maintain their places in the polls. As for the Iowa game, they looked great against Purdue. Other than the first series, the D looked great (Chad Greenway is the man, I'm going to miss him so much next year). The offense looked excellent as well; Albert Young looks like he's going to be another great Hawkeye back and Drew Tate is starting to look like the player he was last year when I couldn't shut up about how awesome he was. Their season looks like it might finally be getting back on track and that makes me excited. I am sad that Ed Hinkel broke his arm though, hopefully it's not too bad. I drove down to Iowa City to watch the game in the bars with a bunch of my friends who go to the U of I, it was a good time. Iowa City on a Saturday night=insanity, I'm going to try to catch a home game there later in the year. Watching a game in Kinnick is always an awesome experience (as are the parties afterwords), especially when the Hawks are playing well. |

Well, im a TCU fan, they put 22k in a 46k stadium even when they are doing well, which is right now! Go Horns in the meantime, and yeah TX Tech is kinda looking pretty hot right about now. The big twelve has some talented teams, including Nebraska, Baylor has been turning a few heads, also. GA is kicking bootie and taking names big time, they look for real. Way past time to do something about the BCS (aka Bull C@ck Sh@t) for sure......

I'm actually pretty down on the Big XII other than Texas and Texas Tech. Nebraska and CU are okay but the rest of the north is flat out bad (including ISU who beat Iowa Badly
). In the south I thought Texas A&M would be good too, but that's not looking like the case.I'm torn on the BCS thing. I realize it's somewhat unfiar because someone always seems to get left out but I have yet to see a realistic playoff proposal that also wouldn't wind up leaving someone who deserved to be in out. I like the fact that the BCS makes every regular season game count; if you lose one game, you're probably out of it. I also think a playoff would cheapen the Bowl games, which I think are a great tradition and give the fans and players of schools that are outside the elite something to look forward to. I realize you can still have them, but they'd wind up being like the NIT which no one gives a shit about. For whatever reason I don't feel that way with the BCS system. |

I was really excited. My longhorns ended a long drought against the Sooners. West Virginia took first place in the big east. Which is a pretty weak conference.
The only letdown was my Boilers. Damn, they suck thos year. It looks like Texas will have a shot at the national title. That is if they don't get upset by one of the big 12 teams.
