I personally did not care for his broadcasts, but certainly feel badly he had cancer. What a crumby way to go...

I had heard he was a heavy smoker until several years ago, so I guess it's probably not that big of a shock, really.

Interestingly enough, Peter had quit smoking over ten years ago, and after 911 he started back again. He was the main broadcaster i listened to during 911 and felt that his coverage of it was quite good under the circumstances. I personally didnt care for him, but felt of the big 3 (Brokaw, Rather, Jennings), that he was probably the better of the 3. But thats a point we could argue forever. Liberal newcasters generally inundate network broadcasting so its essentially a melting pot. But Barbara Walters said it best, the lesson that should best be learned from his passing is DONT SMOKE! Which is good advice for everyone... although i date women that smoke would never touch it myself...
