Default After 2 accidents, its time to trade my car in!

After a rough start to the year. A year that saw me get smashed by a drunk driver. Then my girlfriend was in a bad wreck. My car is still going strong(after 10 grand in repairs this year). So I feel its time to get a new car.

I'm heading out tomorrow to get a Chevy Cobalt SS. I was test driving one today, and realized it is definately the car i'm going to buy. I narrowed it down to this, a Lancer or a Pontiac G6. I chose the cobalt for insurance and payment purposes.

I also looked, and also almost bought a new Eclipse(bad ass ride).

Anyone else car shopping, or recently bought a new car?

I can't make out the badge. Is that the car you are going for?

If so that is one nice looking car. double for that.

Nice car imo.

Ill be looking to get something new in a year or so. Im tossing the idea around of keeping my Integra and, if I can afford it, buying a Jeep Liberty or Chevy Colorado.

That's a pretty sweet lookin ride, and yes the new Eclipse is bad ass, my sister has one.
I'd prob go for the Lancer myself just cause I knoiw so many ppl with chevy cavaliers and they all say it was great the 1st yr or so then they go to shit.

I know insurance for a Lancer is higher than I am most of the time so the SS was prob the best choice price wise. At first I thought you were saying you were gonna take your check from that drunk driver for 10 g's and buy a new car.

GOD I'M SO TIRED I CAN HARDLY READ...must try to sleep or something...focker out.

Those look like a pretty decent car, I don't know too much about them though.... What I don't get is, in the commercials I've seen for those Chevy says "Different" or something like that, yet to me at least, they look quite similar to the newer Civics...

The current car I have ('92 Mazda Protege) should last me quite a while yet, assuming I'm not in an accident or something. But for future considerations, I've been contemplating a used Subaru Imprezza WRX or Toyota Tacoma....we'll see I guess, that'll be years away if all goes well.

I just bought a 1993 GMC Suburban (4WD).

It's completely unique. Nothing like it on the road.

It is really nice, though. It's had gobs of work done to it, excluding only a major engine and transmission overhaul. I don't anticipate needing to do any maintanance to it for quite some time.

It's two-tone: maroon with a beige/tan stripe. It's got after-market alloy rims, too, so that's nice. Actually pretty nice looking, really. Comfortable, drives well, everything's tight (no rattles). I like it.

But, it's got a 42-gallon gas tank. The guy I bought it from had it almost completely empty, of course, so it cost me a little over $85 to fill it up. That sucked.

How fast does it run out though? seems like that kind of vehicle would chew through gas as if it were a solid in a horribly written simile in which gas was solid and was capable of being chewed.

I got a 01 Saturn SC2 this winter, and it's really good on gas compared to my old 96 Chrysler Sebring JX. It cut at least $20 off the gas cost driving from PA to VT for school

I anticipate about 12 in town, 15 on the highway.

That sounds bad, but my old chevy pickup (which was too small to fit the whole family in) got much worse than that.

It won't be used very often. Just for periodic trips to the mountains, the occasional road trip, etc. I'm expecting less than 5,000 miles per year (the pickup logged about 2500 miles per year over the past five years).

I wanted the utility of a 4wd vehicle and the passenger capacity of the larger wagon.

I could have gotten the passenger room in a more economical vehicle, but I would have been missing the 4wd functionality. And it's cheaper to pay a little more for gas than to have two separate vehicles.
