Default Gmail's Growing?

On Gmail's homepage it has a counter going up from around 2052, and storage space was upped to 2GB for their first birthday, and it seems that the counter is going to continually go up from there, increasing space further.
Another reason to love Gmail

Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

That's pretty crazy, but who will actually use up 2 gigs? One gig is plenty for me (though I prefer Hotmail over Gmail); I can't see myself filling that up any time soon, let alone a whole 'nother gig (right now my email capacity is at 17 MB, and my Hotmail is at 23 MB).
