Default Router Suggestions?

Can anyone suggest a good router?

It needs to take 3 machines with a possibility of a games console at a later date.

Which is better, with or without inbuilt modem? The modem we have is the standard free BT one.

It needs to be able to take 1MB ADSL.

Thanks in advance,

Gabe

If you want a Wireless Router for gaming here's some suggestions:
D-Link DGL-4300 - This is probably the best wireless gaming router, but it was too rich for my blood. Runs about $170-$180.
http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370

Or

Belkin Pre-N Wireless Router (This is the best Wireless Router on the market) - It'll run you about $150.

Ok now if you strictly want to go Wired, any wired Router would do:
Anything from Linksys, Belkin, Netgear, or D-Link would pretty much be standard. They will run you around $40-$60 depending on brand sometimes.
If you want a more high end router with VPN and more Firewall features as well as security, either a Zyxel or Cisco System router would do. They also come with Gygabit Lan. The only downfall is that for a home user they are not really worth it, they will run you around $150-$250.

If it was up to me personally and i had the money i woudl get the D-Link Wireless Gaming Router. But i am using a Standard $39.99 Netgear Router with the Belkin Pre-N Wireless Router for my wireless connection.

So i would tell you to get either the Pre-N Router or any standard $40 wired router.

I've never had any problems with both the Netgear wireless routers I've tinkered with. They're also very easy to use if you're not too technical.

Actually Netgear Routers are considered the most hardest to install. The easiest to install are Belkin and Linksys. Netgear and D-Link are a little more tech savie installation.

I've used all router and the easiest to install by far was the Belkin and 2nd was Linksys. Netgear took a little longer and a little bit of my knowledge.

I love Netgear products personally, they seem to work the best. But i do have my complaints on them as well. Firstly they are the only ones that only give you Free 90 Day Tech Support and after that you pay per case. There tech support unlike Linksys or Belkin is 100% outsourced so half the time you don't understand what those guys are talking about. And because i knew more then half those guys about Routing, Networks, and Firewalls they always put me up to 2nd or 3rd level of support. I have had problems with the Netgear Wireless 108 Router and gaming with it on certain games. I wouldn't recommend buying the 108 Atheros Netgear Wireless Router for gaming.

Thanks guys, I've seen a few Belkin products around.

I've heard that wireless routers can have a higher signal degradation than wired, is this right?

Also to note is the fact that at the moment I'm using a machine approximately 10 metres away from the nearest wall socket (using a 10m cable running upstairs).
