Man, there no wander why this country is under fire for its troops in Iraq!

A good friend of mine who is getting sent to Iraq pretty soon just called me. He is in Colorado Springs and is leaving tonight. They gave him his gun, which is a SAW. The damn thing didn't have a barrel. And most of the gun was duct taped together to keep it in one piece. His Kevlar is falling apart. The straps are ripped and the plates will barely stay in the damn thing. He had to go out and buy his own GPS system with his money because the one the military provided didn't work. He had to buy his own 2 wave radios because the ones the military provided weren't working right.

I mean, give me a ****ing break. You'd think that as much as the ******* politicians are talking about how great our army and equipment is. They could at least be able to give these men some decent ****ing kevlar.

His wife, who is my bosses daugther is sending me pictures soon of how bad the equipment is, is broke until there next pay because he had to buy his own things, so he could be at least half ass prepared.

The thing that saddens me is, this date has been set up now for over 2 months. They knew exactly when this was going to happen. And yet, he is headed over there without a ****ing barrel in his gun.

He called before they got on the flight, and they were not permitted to take there bayonets as carryon. But they could take there pistols and rifles. I about died laughing when he told me that.

Well, it's a lot more convenient to stab somebody on a plane than to shoot him and risk the bullet piercing the plane and supposedly being destructive. But they did something on the Discovery Channel that tested what happens when you shoot a bullet during an airflight, and it really didn't seem that bad.

Either way, I think they should higher spending on military equipment. Some taxes are just wasted in this country.

spend more on our military??? Yes i know its crap, but we shouldn't be over in Iraq anyways. Even if we do give more money to the military, we should spend some more here at home first. Roads, school funding, programs. Use the citizens taxes on the citizens before you do on some crazy country.

That's very scary to hear that your friend is so ill-equipped for heading over there. I sure wouldn't want to be flying over there with all that cheap, falling apart crap that's not even working properly. Maybe it's not more money that's needed, but rather prioritizing the distribution of it so that we don't have things like this happening...

Thats the thing, its not that he will have to go without these things the whole time. Its the fact that he has to go without these things at all. Who knows, he may get everything his first day over there. But then again he may not.
