good luck for your friend; I hope it works out for him. "Jeb", the military WAS the basis for our freedom back in the Revolutionary War era. Since when have we had full wars fought on our own soil recently? Yes, it is necessary to maintain a military to defend ourselves, but in Iraq we are not defending ourselves; we are invading. We are an offensive force in Iraq, forcing ourselves into a country that didnt want us there. Some do want us there, but a majority of them hate our guts, along with a lot of other countries in the world. I dont think we should be over there. We are losing way too many innocent lives for nothing. They gave us no real threat, except maybe for those non-existant weapons. But go ahead and think what you want.

Actually the majority of the Iraqis did want us there originally. It was only when things took longer to put right than they thought it should that they turned on us. I still believe that what we're doing in Iraqi is a good thing. The leaders are chosen by the people and that's how it should be in every country.

hey i'm not pissed at anyone, I just think the war is wrong and its a waste of valuable time and money. A lot of my friends and neighbors went over there, and I havent seen some of them in over a year.

Nothing but a waste? I'll agree that it could have been run better and we went in under false pretenses, but there has been some good that's come from it. A brutal dictator is out of power and they just had a successful election; I'd say those are good things and hardly a waste of time. I know some people that are over there as well and I worry about them and hope they come back okay, but they don't think it's a waste of time and are glad to be there and helping. They seem to think it's a worthy cause and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what they're doing.

True, I suppose, but there are lots of dictatorships in the world, Cowboy, most of which are just as brutal as the Bathists were. If that justified war (I'm not saying you think it does, just if it did), then we ought to be fighting half a dozen countries right now.

Jon Stewart made a great comparison the other day when he acknowledged that we're actually achieving some of the goals we went to war with. "I don't like the reason, but I can't argue with the results. 'My daddy hits me, but look how tough I'm getting!'"
