X Box recall notice

Taken from Friday's Metro (UK newspaper)

Microsoft has recalled 14 million powercords as they cause fires and burn gamers.

They are recalling the cords of all X Boxes sold in Eurpoe before Jan 13 2004, and the rest of the world before October 23 2003. Consoles built after those dates were designed to prevent power cord failure.

The recall represents around 2 thirds of the 20 million X Boxes sold worldwide.

Customers affected by the latest recall can request a new power cord free of charge at www.xbox.com

Didn't Sony do this for PS2 a while ago for burning or electric shock too?
I thought the cords were supposed to cause bodily damage. I figured mine was faulty because I'm still unscarred. I was just to lazy to get it replaced for one of the higher end burning models.

oh, i guess i should say i ordered mine, although i'll still use the old on, like, leave it plugged somewhere else incase i want to hook my xbox to my tv or videocap card, i dont have to swap wires.
The toasty warm fire will just be a happy side-benefit.

This could cost them quite a lot. About 14,000,000 cables?

How long did it take for the cables to arrive guys? I've received an email to say it should be 2-3 weeks.

i got mine today (it may have arrived earlier, but i wasnt at school to get it)
Not what i was expecting..

Reminds me of a hairdryer plug

you brits might have a similar, PAL version or something.

:Edit: It has a Reset and a Test button, for surge purposes, and a light, which i havent really observed in action yet, havent used it, but i think it lights green or red depending on status..

yeah, I though that too. and the fact I hate plugs like this for anything. Would have been nice if they had a normal plug with a breakerbox somewhere mid cord maybe.

Anyways, I have it on the end of my surge protector so its not taking up any more room than it needs.
