Default Video Editing

I like trying to make my own movies with friends, and I was wondering if any of you knew how to add special effects. I saw this one video clip where this one guy made it look like they had lightsabers, and then he zapped him with his force powers or whatever it was. It looked pretty cool for being done at home, and I'm wondering if any of you know how to do this. Also, do any of you know how to do any other special effects, such as adding explosions, or do you know how to make fake explosions with chemicals? thanx

I know at www.theforce.net there is a walkthrough on how to make your own light sabre effects. I don' t think it was terribly tough, but it seemed rather time consuming. I'd look there and they probably have info on other effects as well.

Arcsoft Showbiz DVD 2 is what I use. It's pretty good. I have one by Pinnacle, but it crashes all the time, so I don't use it much. Both of those will edit and author, but they're about $90-100 a piece.

You wouldn't believe the images my mind conjoured when I read this thread title

Anyway, I don't use video editing but I did run a net search for it and came up with:

Adobe Premier Pro

Ulead Video Studio

is Arcsoft Showbiz DVD 2 better than windows movie maker? and is it worth $99. Can I add those lightsaber effects for example in a movie with this software?

I would say it's better than Windows Movie Maker, in my experience. I am not sure about the light sabre thing though.
