Default Goin' to see the Pres

One of the guys I work with got tickets to see the President this afternoon when he speaks in Great Falls (Montana).

I'm not an especially huge W fan, but hey, it's the Pres, and it's not often that one comes to Great Falls.

So, I'm gonna go listen to him, and see what he's like in person. Hopefully I'll be encouraged.

Kind of interesting - the largest venue in Great Falls holds 6,000 people. Supposedly, a rather large number of those seats is being taken by the traveling media core.

Not sure about you, but that seems pretty lame to me. The guy goes to all the expense (and puts our city through the expense: about $25,000 worth of overtime pay, etc.) to speak to John Q. Public. Then the seats are snarfed up by people who see him literally every day.

Gives you the impression that the whole trip is in fact what it seems: a traveling photo opp.

Oh well.

I saw him in 2000 during the Iowa Caucuses. I'm not a huge fan of his either, but I thought he came acrossed a lot better in person that he does on TV. At the time I wasn't really pulling for him (I'm more of a John McCain guy) but he was hard not to like when you saw him speak live.

My sister got to see him give a speech not too long ago.

If I ever get the chance, I won't miss it.

He's pretty much exactly the same in person as he comes across on the T.V., I thought.

That's not all bad, mind you. I sort of like that he's just an average Joe. One of his redeeming qualities is that he doesn't try to be slick. He just speaks plainly.

Granted, that may be more by necessity than by design, but I still prefer it to the slick politician jargon.

i got to see Bill Clinton once. even though i'm not very liberal, i thought it was neat to see the leader of the country.

on a related note, my sister's boyfriend saw Ted Kennedy, and when Kennedy went to shake his hand, my sister's boyfriend just stood there (snubbed him). i wish i could have been there to see that. that was at Kerry's concession speech. furthermore, he didn't clap when kerry walked in (he just had his hands in his pockets) and the whole time he had a headset on. When kerry left, some Seceret Service people held my sister's boyfriends arms since they didn't know if he was going to do anything "rash".

Really? It's possible I happened to catch him on a good day too. It was really early in his first campaign so I'm sure he didn't have nearly as much on his mind and was a bit more relaxed.

My classmate babysits for a girl whose dad is in the Secret Service, and he says Bush is the most caring person he's ever known.

But I personally never have seen him, so I wouldn't know.

I probably wouldn't miss it either, even though I don't like him. Seeing a President speak would be cool despite your liking of the guy. Plus, with his speaking ability your garunteed a laugh or two :P jk

Unlike your obvious grasp of spelling.
